Honestly, the part that I question about all this is that in 2070 Disney could afford Microsoft. Well, also the record losses on XVI bit, but mostly because I'm fairly sure that would be XVII - I don't expect XVI to go through all the development hell of XV.
Been playing a bunch of Loop Odyssey, which is very visually similar to Loop Hero, but with its own thing going on. You program paths for the character to explore and let a path run as a loop. Every tile/npc/enemy becomes easier to interact with, as you repeat those actions.
Designing and optimizing loops that perform different functions, like increasing atk/def or gaining more exp for killing certain enemies, has a mild Zachtronics feel to it. I tend to set a loop and let it run in the background, while I do other things, checking and tweaking things every so often.
Until this transaction closes, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to operate independently. Once the deal is complete, the Activision Blizzard business will report to me as CEO, Microsoft Gaming.
No more Bobby Kotick. Phil Spencer trying to gather all the FPS franchises like fucking infinity stones. Seriously big industry news, and even more competition for Steam's store with Xbox Game Pass.
The circle is now complete.

A lot of Disney's money comes from its theme parks and other in-person attractions which have taken a serious hammering with the pandemic. Disney having acquisition money would be derailed if the future world is contending with Zeta Variant: The Remastered Definitive Edition - Now with Dante from Devil May Cry!

OK, everyone needs to check out Vampire Survivors. It's a rogue-lite game that sort of mashes up Loop Hero and Robotron. You move around killing enemies with your auto-attacks and picking up treasures/xp to get stronger over time. Enemies scale as well, so you need to keep up your item upgrades to clear out the endless waves of enemies.
There are extra characters to play as and you can spend coins earned in your prior runs to upgrade future runs (extra move speed, stronger base damage, etc).
But the best part is the game is only $3! That means this is the perfect title to mass gift to everyone here.
So uh, I bought this last night. I wasn't really expecting much but I figured you can't go too wrong for $3. I started playing and a few hours later oh hey, it's 7am. Been a long time since I did that. Definitely room for improvement with new skills, abilities, upgrades, more maps, maybe more characters, but the base game mechanics are solid. It's a lot of fun.
I picked it up myself.
Best I've done is ~16 minutes on Forest and 24m in the Library.
Forest keeps getting me with either the second flower wall at 10m or the werewolves at 15. Library is probably a huge spawn of witches that does me in.
Operation Cryptic Breath
No rest for the wicked! During Jagged Dance, we received a call from the resistance that a small expedition into the lost territory of the ruins of Mumbai had gotten stranded, and needed rescue. So, as soon as Firebrand touched back down on the Avenger, we started loading out another squad. 21stCentury, Nova_C, @Jazz, Orphane, @Mugsley, and Lucedes were deployed. We'd ran ThatHatBoy ragged, and Telum was on a covert action, so no scout. Many of our best operatives were in need of rest, really, hence the two squaddies Mugsley and Lucedes. However, without any ADVENT in the area, I didn't anticipate the squad having too much trouble with the lost.
A similar setup to our last of these rescue operations. A scientist VIP with a single escort, the escort was incapacitated, and the VIP was holding the lost off with an auto-turret that was running low on ammo. The squad moved up into a building between them and the objective, our snipers Jazz and 21st heading up a fire escape to set up on its upper floors. Then the Chosen Warlock teleported into the AO. Given that we had prepared for just fighting a bunch of lost, and that the ticking clock of that turret's ammo meant that we couldn't handle this slowly and carefully, this was concerning.
Time was short enough that we didn't have much room to mull this over. Nova_C had to dash for the expedition, while the squad did its best to keep them clear of lost and not fall too far behind. Small mercies, we had nice long sightlines down a street for this part, giving Jazz and 21st their pick of targets. Nova_C probably normally wouldn't have been able to make it to the expedition in time, but knowing that their bondmate 21st was covering them gave them the extra burst of speed they needed to make it just before the turret ran dry, and got the VIP running back to the squad.
This might've been just what the Warlock was hoping for though, waiting for us just past the expedition. He summoned in a mec, and used his psionic mind scorch to leave Nova_C dazed, out of the squad's reach. Telum closed the distance as much as she could, the squad clearing some of the lost away from her path. 21st and Jazz tried to take out the mec, but only damaged it. It fired on Orphane, but thankfully missed. The Warlock rushed into capture Nova_C, but before he could, Lucedes reached their squadmate and got them back on their feet. Mugsley took out the mec, and Orphane shredded they Warlock's armor plating, but the lost were swarming into the street so the squad had to focus on controlling the horde rather than taking out the Warlock. 21st moved down from the their sniper perch to move up with the squad, as we didn't need a second sniper right now as much as we needed some close-quarters gunslinging.
I was worried what the Warlock might do, but it seems like he was having second thoughts about his "pin XCOM in the middle of a zombie horde" plan now that he was realizing that left him in the middle of a zombie horde too, as he dashed out of the street and through the window of a warehouse to get out of the horde. We took this opportunity to temporarily break LoS from him and gain control of our own situation. Nova_C used their gremlin to get the VIP's escort (thus far unconscious and ignored by the enemies) back on their feet. The escort took cover with Lucedes and Nova_C, and everyone cleared as much lost as they could, giving us some needed breathing room.
The Warlock, for his part, had been followed into the warehouse by some lost, and pulled out his mag rifle to clear them. However, firing on his target at point blank range, he missed. With that, the squad had their opening, and Lucedes and Mugsley rushed into the warehouse after the Warlock. With a shotgun blast and a sword slash, the two squaddies killed the Chosen.
With just lost left, everything from here was pretty by the book. The squad fell back in formation with the resistance escort alongside, cutting down the lost horde as it attempted to close on them. The VIP by this point had made it up to Jazz's sniper perch, and was taking cover with them. Finally free to start firing their weapon, Nova_C demonstrated some real crack shooting with their mag rifle. The squad made it back up to Jazz, and from there back to the LZ. After extracting the VIP, the squad elected to hold position as long as they could and cull lost, and extract as soon as things started to go south. However, after a while it became apparent that "as long as they could" was indefinitely, and we've all got shit to do, so the squad simply extracted.
21st and Nova_C made major, Jazz made captain, Orphane made lieutenant, and Mugsley and Lucedes have made corporal.
The resistance operative we rescued, a lieutenant specialist named @Talus9952, has joined our forces aboard the Avenger.
Covert Actions
Telum and emnmnme have returned from their operation with the Skirmishers. While emnmnme was wounded, they've successfully sabotaged the AVATAR project, buying us more time.
Now that we finally have some intel on the Warlock that's been harassing the Reapers, we can finally start our hunt for him. Talus, Lucedes, and @Corsini are currently deployed to that end.
Welp, I made it to 29:33 on Library! That was nuts and felt like the game throws enough monsters there that it's a hard wall.
Still stuck around the 15 min mark on Forest.
This happened. It got super crazy with waves of preying mantises followed by mummies and then plants. Then I guess time ran out and this guy appeared and killed me. Completing that stage unlocked Hyper mode for the Forest. About to find out what that's like. Edit: more enemies, more gold, and everything is faster.

So, I've played through Halo. All the Master Chief Collection games (including the Spartan Ops, which in retrospect I really should have at least tried to find people for).
They're fun! And shooty! And the stories are honestly engaging. It helps that Spartans feel badass, I think, but also there's an earnestness to their space opera meets hard sci-fi mixture. Even Halo 4, which was apparently the first foray for a new studio with the same property, felt more or less like it belonged somewhere in the crazyass story they had to tell.
And complaints I'd have about the games, at least at the campaign level, are not really worth grousing about (save for that secondary Spartan Ops thing in 4, which really should have had a way to play all episodes in a chapter without having to return to the menu and I will totally kvetch about that). Lots of fun. Sort of disappointed 5 isn't on the PC, though it appears as though the 14.99 Game Pass gets some kind of cloud gaming thing that I should be able to play it through. I can't just skip it, as reviled as it apparently is by long-time fans. If I'm to ever play Infinite, I'll have to have played 5 first.

I'm on the fence about whether or not I should do this as a separate thread, since I notice some LPs happen here, so, at least to start with, we can get feedback from the professionals:
Should the manager be a man or a woman, and what should the name of their group be?
Manager should be a woman, name of the group should be Jalapeno Pop.
Oh, and she'll need a name, too.
(And her rival will either be male or female.)
MS stopped making Xbox One S/X.
They are still making Xbox Series S/X.
I still don't know the difference
And at this point I'm too afraid to ask
MS is super bad at naming consoles.
In the beginning there was Xbox and it was powerful but not widely adopted.
Then there was Xbox 360 and it was unreliable so MS continued to iterate and made dumb things like Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 Elite which were maybe slightly more powerful and also maybe more reliable but still were, at their core, 360s.
Then there was Xbox One which was, again, powerful and not widely adopted. Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and (I shit you not) Xbox One SAD were more powerful with One X being the most powerful of the bunch, but they all all, essentially, the same beast.
Now there is Xbox One Series S/X which are mostly the same guts, but X has more power under the hood because it can output at 4K while the S cannot. They both play Series games though.
I blame Sony and their sensible number scheme for MS and their stupid one because they probably didn't want to release the Xbox 2 while Sony was putting out the PlayStation 3 or some other dumb shit.

I already have Microsoft .NET
I dipped the dials up a little and appearently there is plot
Also, I cannot get a functioning ecosystem going and randomizing the tech tree took some basic tech out of my hands
Also, never got my research game going so I was stuck calling down supply drops from earth....which was made more difficult by plot cutting those off
Still great game for 5 hours of playing and free
