I was just thinking and comparing my current greataxe user versus my first character, a Moonveil/Sorcery guy. When you have a Greataxe, every problem looks like a nail tree to chop. My basic strat is just hit with axe very hard. Sometimes I dodge, sometimes I win the poise battle, that's maybe the biggest difference.

Whereas my first character, it was a swiss army knife. Trash and close range stuff? Moonveil. Dodgy guys? Night comet. Extreme range? Loretta's Greatbow. Magic resistant? Rock Sling. Big not-dodgy boss? Comet Azur. AoE and/or cheesing stuff? Night Maiden's Mist. Malenia? Ranni's Dark Moon. I just had so many answers, but sometimes the right one wasn't obvious.

That's fair! But you can also say that for the "good" weapons of each type too. If you just want a solid int scaling weapon, you'll stumble upon plenty of ashes of war to get you that. You'll stumble upon at least some of the damn good spells through main story stuff too, and the starter spells are good!

The difference is you only typically use one weapon, but can store multiple spells. You don't actually need all of the spells though, any more than you need every str scaling weapon. If you're "I must cast this specific spell", then it's pretty darn similar to "I must use rivers of blood". But if you just want to be a wizard? Totally doable, no traps here.

The nice thing is they're meaningful upgrades. Whereas if I get Butchering Knife or whatever in mid/late game, it's +0 versus my +18 Greataxe. So it's a downgrade until I put my limited smithing stones into it.

So I guess, in trying to look online, is there a good general guideline to picking up stuff for and Arcane/Dex build (dragon stuff with bleed as a fallback) without spending the first hour running from place to place, dodging everything, and grabbing 10 items or w/e to start the build? Can I just pick a dex weapon early, stick to mostly vigor and endurance, and then slowly transition into dragon stuff as it becomes available naturally?

Yeah the ashes of war system makes it super easy to get a decent enough weapon to scale with your stat type early on.

They're every where, and a dex based one will make weapons scale with dex if it doesn't already. You'll also just find plenty of weapons that you can use without that early on too.

None of that stuff is necessary, just a quick way to get your build fully online. It's generally more fun to explore and wander for at least a bit your first time. You don't need to worry about wasting your early crafting mats on a "subpar" weapon too much either, as there are vendors that eventually sell infinite amounts of all but the highest upgrade stones.

    Turned 38 few weeks ago.

Made a 2 year goal to hit 495 dead, 405 squat, 315 bench by the time im 40.

Currently im 405 dead, 305 squat, 250 bench.

I thiiiink i can hit that goal with a 2 year time frame if i dont injure myself. Doin 5-6 days a week, standard PPL.

What im struggling with right now is 2 things.

    1. do i try and bulk at this weight and body fat *now* to bump those numbers, or should i cut first with focus on maintenance strength and _then_ bulk with a longer "runway" before hitting higher bodyfat %. Right now Im 5'11" 205lb, prolly ~20-25% body fat (need to schedule a DEXA.)

    2. If / when bulking, should i break out of PPL and focus more on 1 lift for prioritization, while maintenance on other lifts. Effectively prioritizing 1 lift at a time until hit the number, then move to the next for proiritization. Ie. Bench 3 days a week to get bench to 315, while only squatting and once a week to maintain the squat but not necessarily grow it.

2 years is a long time, but also runnin out of time to hit those kinda numbers as I get older ya know?

The standardization of the jalapeño was rapidly accelerated by the debut, about 20 years ago, of the TAM II jalapeño line, a reliably big, shiny, fleshy pepper that can grow up to six inches long—with little to no heat. TAM II peppers have become some of the most popular in the processing business. The 2002 paper in HortScience trumpeted TAM II’s benefits: virus resistance, absence of dark spots, longer fruit with thicker flesh, earlier maturation, and, compared to a variety of jalapeño called Grande, less than 10 percent of the spiciness. TAMs grown in one location measured in at 1620 Scoville units, while those at another came in at just 1080, which is milder than a poblano.
Since I know you’re wondering who the inventors are: the clue is in the name TAM II. The hot (but also not hot) new jalapeño is an invention of Texas A&M University. Yes, Aggies took the spice out of life.

Texas is continuing to ruin food for everyone.

I don't even understand how those fake plastic looking peppers in that article are supposed to be more appealing looking

Perfectly reasonable numbers. It’s more about what you can recover from. I know you said PPL but consider this, Nogs.

Mon - bench (heavy emphasis), bench accessory, back (chin-ups, pull-ups), shoulders, bi’s, tri’s

Tues - squat (lighter, more overall volume with sets not reps, RDL, single leg / ham / quad exercises

Thurs - bench (same idea as Tuesday squat, move bar fast), bench accessory (same as Monday), back (horizontal rows), shoulders, bi’s, tri’s

Friday - squat (med-heavy, low total volume of sets + reps) deadlift (medium…work up to a heavy set every three weeks), single leg / ham / quad

Sat - bench (medium - light, low total volume, literally touching the bar), back (mix of Tues/thurs) bi’s tri’s

When I say heavy somewhere in the region of 75% - 95%

Light somewhere in the region of 55-75%

    Medium - 65-80%

Let’s use bench as an example. Monday, couple of warm up sets, work sets at 4x3x80%(SxR format). Thursday, warmups, work sets at 8x3x55%, Saturday, warmups, worksets at 3x5x70%

In a three week wave you could go Monday 80/85/90, Thursday 55/60/65, Saturday 70/75/80.

As the percentages go up, adjust the sets x reps to add a little total tonnage week to week.

    250x.8=200x12=2400 on heavy day
    250x.85=212.5x12=2550 on heavy day
250x.9=225x12=2770 on heavy day (note: probably not doing 12 reps at 90 here. Would range 3-6 total, meaning it would be a heavy day, but recoverable.)

Edit: you should include your warmup sets with total tonnage, and obviously if you’re going heavier you’re going to warm up a bit more.

Rep scheme can stay the same on Thursday and Saturday, just take a set off each week on Thursday (8/7/6).

    Hope this makes sense.

Backblaze seems good as an online backup—if you can push that much through a consumer pipe. What about offline backups? I’m pushing 20 TB now and it now longer fits on a single drive (aside from the degradation concerns).

Single 20 TB drives is a thing, just not in USB enclosures from what I have found.
And they are 20.000.000.000.000 bytes and not 21.990.232.555.520 as one would expect, so in reality they hold 18.6 TB instead. You should be able to find for like $300 and then you just need a SATA to USB 3 gizmo to connect it to your computer, those can be had for like $3 and up - just make sure to get one that will power a 3½" drive as some only work for less power hungry 2½"drives.

There is also 22 TB drives that then actually hold 20 TB, however as it is a new thing they cost like almost twice what the 20 TB drives can be had for. And if money doesn't matter I think Intel something able to hold a few more TB for 10x the price.

Funny, because it is also true. It is still a thing if enough data is involved, be it for a business purpose or just for my personal backup with a ton of video material (and me not running a personal server off-site). But only really when talking moving full data sets, not the day to day thing unless it is some crazy science stuff.
Even moving servers them self is also a non-thing, since virtualization means just moving the data to new physical hosting.

I recently finished The Coldfire Trilogy. Picked it up after seeing a description in a previous book thread. I liked it quite a bit, so thanks to whoever talked it up. I wouldn't say the writing is polished. It's not a trilogy of fancy prose. It works for the story, though. The world is way more interesting than the plot for the 1st 2 books, then the world becomes the plot in the 3rd and it was great.

For your first heavy day start it at 75%, which you can definitely do 5’s if that’s your flavor. Then your light day can be 50-60%…medium day 65%. Week 2 heavy 80%, week 3 85%, feel it out and adjust from there. I think you’ll add some muscle mass regardless.

Average squat increase for the football boys 20#, clean 16#, bench 18#.

Team average (JV and varsity), 315, 200, 206. Not bad for 6 weeks, not exactly how I like to structure it but pretty good. Turns out doing just about anything with pubertal males with low training ages has positive results!
