AZZQR.gif Look, I...a few, okay? It's not important. I'm just saying if she starts poking around in there too much, I'm gonna split.

Though it is good to see you speak up about something there my pink friend, I thought for a minute your tongue was just for lollin' about. Sheesh, you'd think you were related to one.

    YewTown.png

MarshGrr.png Suddenly, the plot wakes up and goes "Oy, what's goin' on in here?"

MarshGM2.png Around the next bend, the forest slowly clears, revealing what must surely be Yew Town. As Bulbasaur described, the tree-covered town lies across a neatly bisected hill, a ragged cliff dropping down into a relatively calm sea in which a few small vessels can be seen sailing.

MarshGMUh.png Though not in that picture because I didn't draw em. Suck it.

MarshGM.png In spots along the cliff, the entrances to caves can be seen, some of them clearly inhabited from the flags and small fences that can be seen around them. Nestled among the trees are various sizes and colors of tree-dwelling, suspended on branches or constructed around trunks and linked with rope and plank walkways for the many denizens who can't fly. At the top of the hill, the curve of what appears to be a large, yellow hive can be seen peaking out from among the trees.

    BulbaPatchedUp.png Yay! Yew Town!

MarshGM2.png Bulbasaur leads everyone up the winding path into the town, offering the occasional vine-wave to a weedle or bellsprout passerby, which is cheerfully returned. To your possible surprise, the talkative Pokemon seems to be at least a little well-regarded by his fellow townies. Wasting no time on the Eevee's request, he forges a path to the base of an ancient oak, that holds a small, ramshackle purple hut, painted with mystic looking white markings.

Bulbaokay.png So uh, this is Kirlia's house. If you won't miss me I think I'll go try and find a place for you guys to stay. Is there anything or anyone else you wanted to know about before I left? I mean I'll be right back but if you had time to kill after talking to Kirlia you can go check out some other places. Food, move tutoring, bank, job board (though that's mostly for Defenders), Link shop, library, anything like that?

BroMiniAV.gif: It dawns on Kaboom that nobody has been listening to him, as though he were not paying the slightest bit of attention during a nonzero amount of plot development.

Bulbaokay.png They're groups of strong Pokemon that take missions to go out into the wild and do stuff. Sometimes they save someone who got lost, or find certain items, or whatever. They make lots of money, but its kinda dangerous work. When you guys showed up and save me and escorted me back to town, that's basically the kind of thing Defenders do, more or less.

MarshGMUh.png As a, no-doubt-totally-necessary aside. You don't HAVE to form a Defenders Team, but you get neat stuff for doing so and the plot is gonna roll onward regardless. So whatever.

    BulbaLol.png Don't worry, Daryl. I'll find you.

The Eevee gives a short wave to the basement- er, cave-dwelling Bulbasaur as he wanders off. She then turns to the Pineco.

    veejoy.png

"Well, I can see how you might find this surprising, but us folks with limbs tend to just knock on someone's door when we want to say hi!"

She raises a paw and raps on the door twice.

MarshGM.png Shortly after the knock, there's an annoyed groan from within, then grumbling, footsteps, and what sounds an awful lot like bottles getting knocked over and rolling across the ground. The door is eventually opened by a green and white, bipedal Pokemon about twice Nevada's height. Her glazed eyes eventually come into focus on the Eevee, and the Kirlia sizes up her visitor for a moment.

    Kirlia-1.png Mornin', whatcha need?

"Hey, uh, this sounds a little weird, but me and...all these guys woke up in the forest with amnesia. Like, I mean, not just 'what did I do last night,' but the full-blown soap opera kind. Bulbasaur said you were the expert on this sort of weir- er, psychic phenomena, so we thought we'd give you a visit."

    She pauses.

Kirlia-1.png Dramatic fiction in a serial format.

MarshGM2.png She replies quickly. Her eyes then flicker light blue for a couple seconds, pupils dilated.

Kirlia-1.png Ugh, why am I not surprised. Bulbasaur, huh? Whatever, come on in. I guess.

MarshGM.pngThe Kirlia shuffles back into her house, leaving the doorway open. The interior of the hut is less messy then you'd expect, but the floor is littered with small shoals of stubby brown glass bottles so there's that! The studio-apartment-style room boasts a nest-like bed, and a bunch of variously sized and colored cushions on the floor for sitting. One corner is set up for painting, it appears, boasting a few easels, and a pair of tables covered with tubes of paint, and more of the ubiquitous brown bottles, some with paint brush handles peeking out of the neck. Kirlia flops down onto a cushion.

Kirlia-1.png So what, exactly, do you need me to do, now?

th_squallsprite.gif Rook follows the group into the home, shoulders hunched and narrowly avoiding tripping over the various bottles in the room. He squats onto a pillow, sitting on his feet, palms stretched to his knees. Force of habit, after all. His voice falters for a moment as he responds.

AZZQR.gif Just some information on if the memory loss thing is a regular occurance around here? Maybe there's some medicine to take or herb to find to cure it? Frozen karp to suck on? I mean, if it's not too much trouble.

    th_squallsprite.gif He looks slightly tense.

Kirlia-1.png Can't say I've heard of any amnesia outbreaks, lately. Other then, you know those feral Pokemon roaming around, if that counts. You don't seem to be in that situation though.

She says, flicking a bottle onto its side with a finger.

Kirlia-1.png Memory is weird stuff, people think its been lost when really its just gotten locked up somewhere in their head, or its something they know but won't acknowledge. Most Psychics aren't really precise about that sort of thing, either. It's either turn a brain into scrambled eggs, or don't, not fiddly memory editing that could take days of meditation to do properly. There's probably a couple Legendary Pokemon who'd be powerful and dickish enough to give it a shot, but I wouldn't know anything about them, and even less about how to undo what they did without making it worse.

    She shrugs.

Kirlia-1.png Might be on your own, Chuckles. Here's hoping you weren't on a quest to save the world when you lost that memory.

    meowthpaws2.png: Hmm, any other advice?

Kirlia-1.png Don't break those, I get a return on em. Anyway, get around, and do stuff, I guess. Eventually something might click some thoughts back into place. Got a good library here, even if the purveyor's a psycho. Good start if you wanna find out what kind of Pokemon do stuff to your memory. Lots of artists and craftspokemon in Yew Town, too, if shopping is your thing. Maybe you were coming here to buy something or meet someone? If you spot them or it maybe it'll jog your memory, or you see if there's anything you're good at doing, figure out what you used to do for work before your brain went poof.

Kirlia-1.png You could visit the bank, if you want to try your luck with a loan. Place is Gang-run though, so watch yourself. Other then that, tough-lookin', not-too-quick cookie like you? Could try your hand at Defenders Teaming, or the Leaf Guard.

AZZQR.gif That like the royal guard or something? It is a monarchy here, right? That's a thing?

  • Options
    MarshmallowMarshmallow Registered User regular
Kirlia-1.png Pretty much a monarchy, yeah. Hereditary benevolent dictatorship, if you prefer. The royal guard is just the Royal Guard though, Leaf Guard is those militia Pokemon who keep the border with Roanock patrolled. Bunch of Rock-type tribes out thataway, occasionally come around raiding and causing trouble. Not feral though, just punks so they got no excuse. Leaf Guard ain't too picky on who they recruit, but they run you pretty hard once you're in, I hear.

KaboomAngry.png: Hopping around town, huh? Sounds dull. Yeah, I was afraid my mind would be far too impenetrable for your meager psychic powers to have any effect, it's cool.

KaboomNormal.png: Concerning those jobs, I guess they'd be okay. Sound kinda lame to be sure, but I guess it's better than being a craftsman or an artist or something.

KaboomNervous.png: Not that there's anything wrong with making pictures. Or... bottles. Nothing wrong with bottles either.

BroMiniAV.gif: Kaboom carefully and subtly attempts to change the subject.

KaboomJoy.png: Enki, I wouldn't worry about not having leaves. I don't have leaves and I'm pretty sure they can at least use me as a grenade or something. No doubt they'll find a use for you. Perhaps you can be part of the supply convoy, bringing fresh food to the troops, singing and dancing to keep 'em upbeat, remind 'em they've got somethin' back home waitin' for 'em, you know?

"Figures. Well, thanks for your help, Kirlia."

She turns to the rest of the group, scratching her head. "I think I'm gonna check out the library. Somehow I doubt there'll be much amnesia-related stuff, but maybe something there'll jog my memory? Ugh."

"Oh, yeah. If any of you guys run into another Eevee, maybe you could ask them if they had a relative go missing?"
