We'll know we're really in trouble when whatever new organisation gets created has a snappy acronym. Even more so if we're never told what it is.
Hopefully Coulson will immediately pick up on how serious it is, just like when dealing with Scorch.

It is kind of funny how
Ward's brother proposed that they should create a multi-national military force to take down SHIELD so he pretty much wants to make another SHIELD to hunt SHIELD.
It's almost like he already knows of one and has it in mind.

Anyone have any thoughts on where they're going with the guy with the
    alien (?) map tattoos?

Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

That speech Talbot gave at the beginning was weird.
He said that SHIELD came on to the scene during the Chitauri attack and that they thought that it was going to help protect the world. He made it sound like SHIELD was some kind of private organization that popped out of nowhere. But it was created by the Allies after WW2, funded by the UN, and heavily supported by the US government. I know that he was probably trying to rewrite history and playing politics but it's kind of hard to deny that SHIELD probably got billions if not hundreds of billions of dollars, lots of weapons and equipment, and tons of personnel from the United States government.

That whole fake SHIELD attack on the UN was really stupid. Could they have made it more obvious that the whole thing was fake and meant to smear SHIELD's name? The only way it could have been sillier is if their SHIELD logos were stickers and when they get pulled off, there's a Hydra logo underneath.
To me it looked like Hydra was trying to grant extra political cover to the folks who want SHIELD's heads on pikes. It wasn't supposed to be subtle or even terribly realistic, it was just so people like Talbot could point and go, "See? See? They're totes evil!"

That plan is so cartoony, I doubt that it would even work if Cobra tried it against G.I. Joe.

You're not really putting yourself in the shoes of a regular Joe in that world. As far as the average watcher of nightly news goes,

    1) there are all these military goomba assholes running around with space lasers trying to kill people
    2) some of them are called HYDRA and some of them are called SHIELD and one used to be part of the other, or something? It's confusing
    3) anyway the government says they're all terrorists
    4) the angry white man on the TV is right, we need to do something about this menace!

I think if GI Joe existed as they do in cartoons in the real world people would hate the crap out of them.

They bail out of billion dollar aircraft at the first sign of damage.
Everytime they fight 'the bad guys' they never hit a single enemy with bullets but just blow up a lot of buildings
They 'arrest' the bad guys who are obviously released to rejoin cobra.
Collaboration with cobra at times when they feel they need to then they let them go
    Uniform (Fashion) budget is outrageous.

The only people that have that compulsion...
...are humans that have been exposed to alien technology. That guy with the alien tattoos was Ward's brother, wasn't he? Senator Ward?

    i don't understand
how people are unable to recognize tattoo man as a completely new character and actor who hasn't been on the show before. he looks nothing like ward's brother or skyes dad.

its time to go to specsavers guys.
he reminded me of henry rollins

Oh shit, speculation time (this has probably been put forward before, but it just dawned on me for the first time):
Okay, so we know they're making a Captain Marvel movie starring Carol Danvers.

Regarding the origin of her powers:
    wikipedia wrote:
the energy exposure from the explosion of a device called the "Psyche-Magnetron" caused Danvers's genetic structure to meld with Captain Marvel's, effectively turning her into a human-Kree hybrid.

What if in the MCU, Danvers wasn't turned into a human-kree hybrid, but instead was literally the child of a human and a kree?

And what if Skye's real name is Carol?

Best part of last nights ep was Colson breaking all the tv tropes about redemption and telling him flat out hes a piece of crap and he aint ever coming back as an agent. Even the way he said it, like he was about to laugh in the guys face at the idea. It's funny how this show dispite its super hero world is more real then most TV dramas.

yeah this episode made a really strong case for them not going the redemption route with Ward. Coulson's outburst, the speech about Ward always lying/finding someone to believe him, Simmons threatening to kill him. and i doubt he'll be too pleased with the team after they tried to ship him off like that, so less chance of him wanting to rejoin the team now(not that i think he was sincere about that anyway).

    I had a weird thought.

There are alien devices out there. Special people can touch them, most can't without going insane.

Skye's dad can touch it. I am assuming this means Skye can too.

There is another dude we have run into in the MCU who was able to survive touching a (much more powerful) alien artifact. Who also has no idea who his dad is, but we the audience have been told that his dad is an asshole.

My gut tells me I am wrong, but it would be a pretty funny coincidence.

    Theory
The connection is the person touching the Diviner has to be Kree or Inhuman. The resurrected have Kree blood in their veins, and so does Skye - and she might be a different sort of alien/alien hybrid before she got the Kree blood. That's probably why it isn't effecting her like it is with Coulson and Garrett.

edit: Who is the dude you're talking about?

    Yes.

Peter Quill may be his name, but his mom called him Star Lord.
We don't know her real name (not that it matters too much), but she is called Skye.

They trolled the announcement. It was Serpent Society initially on the projector, and then they changed it later.

Because they originally announced it as Serpent Society during the presser, and then changed it to Civil War 15 or 20 minutes later as they brought out RDJ and Chris Evans.

It was a prank they pulled at the start of that meeting where they announced the Phase 3 movies.

Hum. cute idea. I'm a bit wary about bringing civil war into the series at such an early age...its not like there will be enough superheroes by the time it comes out to mimic the superhero registration act stuff of the comics.

As skeptical as I can be, I don't see any scenario where you put RDJ and Chris Evans in a movie together as Iron Man and Cap and get anything but gold.

I mean, action adventure flick, duh. But rom-com? Sure, it would work. Vaudeville? Why the fuck not?

I think that's why Agents of Shield is building up to Inhumans in the most blatantly obvious ways. They can replace mutants without being called mutants, and create a set of super humans to fight for and against without having to go deep on backstory for powers. They have enough A list jerks (autocorrected from heroes but I am keeping it) to have both sides have heavy hitters to mop up some red shirts.
