I just watched all of Abbot Elementary. It's really good! The whole cast is good, the setting gives it a unique feel, and it's riding that balance where it's touching without being overly cloying.
later season spoilers
I thought it was a nice...well, not really a twist, I guess, later on, when they have the superintendent show up, and you're like, "ah, well, Ava was blackmailing him the whole time, which cost Gregory a job, and we like Gregory, so that sucks! Ava sucks!" and then it's like, "oh, the superintendent also sucks," and he also sucks in a way that you can't really solve with a sitcom plot. Like, you can maybe get around some of it, but there's no scenario really where this school is ever going to be flush with the cash they need.
There were a few small things I liked. I liked that they did a gifted program plot where the point wasn't the tired, "I was a gifted kid and it fucked me up!!!" point that Twitter has run into the ground, it was that it fucks up things for the kids not in the gifted program, which is sort of arbitrarily decided.
I think they're using the cameras correctly also, which is: they gave a reason why they were there early on, and then they only call attention to the fact that someone is filming this when they have a reason to mention it, and handwave it when like, characters are possibly describing crimes
And that dude's been working forever , no way this is a one-off. Good on them for stepping up and doing something morally correct but very expensive, a sad rarity

Just started watching Patriot at the recommendation of @Poorochondriac
Everyone go watch Patriot immediately.
Oh and I should say that I only watched Patriot because of @tynic banging the drum for it for months? Years? But yes, Patriot is great.
I highly recommend it generally, but especially for folks who dug Severance. It plays in some of the same thematic sandboxes, but with (for my money) more wit and soul and surprise.

Yeah, gonna pile on the love for Patriot. @tynic and @Poorochondriac are 100% right. It's just so charming and has this level of sincerity that's wild in such an absurd show.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

yesterday was New TV Day! Meaning I bought a new TV. It's so pretty. I broke it in watching 4K bits of Spider-verse.
Then my wife wanted to watch the finale of Lizzo's dance show on Amazon. It was pretty good to watch it on a new TV, her performances are super impressive.

Okay I just finished the season and I think I might actually be upset at warrior nun for being as good as it was. I came in here looking for really dumb action shit and you’ve got themes, and fuckin Catholic reference setups that work out excellently, and some actual intrigue and shit, and a very pleasant combination of mythological themes and science fiction themes, and characters that are likable and compelling and flawed. Now I have to suggest to my friends that they should watch a show with a dumb name like warrior nun.
There are probably worse fates. One day I'll think of one.

Speaking of, did that ever heal up?
It sure did! I no longer look like a fourth-rate Dick Tracey villain! And I've regained my strength and fortitude, so I'm back to being a third-rate Batman villain!

Well I just finished "Body Parts". And it was so good I think I'm gonna stop the binge for today.
This was one of the most touching things I've seen. Quark has helped a lot of people on the station, albeit while being greedy and cynical, but he always had a heart in there. I was not expecting him to actually become a destitute pariah...and I was equally surprised by the sudden influx of help from the station.
I said it before, but this show is at its best when it is dealing with relationships and politics. Season 4 is all killer no filler.

Yeah, that's the episode that really won me over on Quark. While he never really becomes a totally different person or anything, he definitely has some wonderful moments sprinkled throughout the next few seasons.

Quark, upon learning that he was misdiagnosed with a terminal illness, yelling that he gets to sue his doctor for malpractice is maybe the happiest I have ever seen a TV character get?
Tonight on Columbo: Columbo investigates TVs favorite detective, Detective Lucerne (William Shatner). Columbo is a big fan, never misses an episode with his wife.

Fun fact Walter Koenig plays the detective sergeant at the crime scene and is uncredited.

Halo has so much ass. And not even just bare ass (although there’s a lot of that), but also like, lingering shots from behind of the Master Cheeks just walking in his armor. Butts may be the only thing this show loves more than sprays of blood.
I think this was the episode where a lot of the stuff the show is tackling has started to coalesce. Mysteries are moving along, characters are starting to have some actual internal motivations, lots of things in motion. Still not great, but enjoyable, and I see a decent amount of potential in what they’re doing.
A couple of neat bits from the games this episode:
We got a needler! But it didn’t get fired, unfortunately. And I liked that they kind of subtly kept in the idea that John’s “super power” is his impossibly good luck. They’re also really going all in on how horrible the Spartan program is, and the UNSC as a whole.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

Shoulda just gotten F Murray Abraham to begin with!
They do talk about that in the little interview as well.

I've been liking Halo pretty well. So far they're pretty clear on the "yo what Halsey and the UNSC did to these kids was fucked" thing.

Very good writing & performances (only 2 episodes in so far), but a lot of snake and dead-snake imagery.
