The Athlete feat is, generally, extremely worth taking on any character that uses str or dex for their primary stat. You can end up dropping it later For Reasons, of course.

that's just your strength stat though, you can boost athletics but it won't increase your jump distance

Oh hmm, I assumed that it was athletics as that would, well, make sense

Shoving is nice too I guess, although I'm more likely to use an eldritch blast to do it without all the fuss

Also, does each blast repel? So if you hit someone with all three blasts it'd send them flying?

    Telekinesis!

There was a fight late in the game where an NPC joined my party, they seemed pretty useless but they had the telekinesis spell, so I grabbed an archer and threw them at my paladin's feet, then grabbed a mage and threw them at my paladin's feet, etc. You can use the spell about 10 times for one spell slot, and I can imagine some pretty good uses for it.

  • BroloBrolo Broseidon Lord of the BroceanRegistered User regular
also Eldritch blast scales its bolts with your overall character level, not your warlock levels

so you can take two levels of warlock to get Eldritch Blast, Repelling Blast and Agonizing Blast, and then you can take ten levels of whatever, you'll still get the triple blast

The thing about Athletics is, it's the only skill that uses Strength, an attribute that people only care about if their character is a melee brawler - and even then, not always, because they make melee weapons for people that key off DEX, too, and DEX already is a super-useful attribute because it adds to your initiative and your AC and a whole bunch of useful skills

I think INT is extremely shortchanged in this game. I haven't had a character with higher than 12 int in any of my 3 playthroughs and I never felt like it fucking mattered at all.

If a party member dies and is risen by the myconids the game breaks and thinks they didn't die and Withers doesn't let you revive if you kill them again.

    Act 3
I have slain Orin! After a truly terrifying transformation, she proceeded to run right up to Lae'zel and her new legendary greatsword and do nothing else. Why? Because Lae'zel, after doing some quick stretches, beat the ever loving shit out of her. Seriously, it was so one-sided that the cultist who were left alive decided to just let us leave. Now to go kill a god...who is turning random citizens into mindflayers in the streets...great.

    Re: Act 3
The game is generally pretty easy by Act 3 and even then Orin was notably undertuned, at least as DUrge. Like, she's a duel boss whose only thing is running up to your face and meleeing, and even with that very small toolkit she's tuned to probably lose to level 10 fighter in plate armor with a +2 sword just attacking without even using action surge.

Maybe she's more threatening in the version of the fight that's an all out war but even then her HP pool is super low so it's basically just deal with her Unstoppable charges and don't get baited into engaging with trash mobs instead of the boss with a big "kill me fast" buff.

I ended up getting Boo and Minsc instead and hell yeah, they're still rad.

Also, I'm glad that when I was headed to Iron Throne, I got to say, "Fuck you, Gortash." Did it help the situation any? Not at all, in fact it probably made things worse! Did it feel real good? You bet it did (and I was still almost entirely successful, so hah! Fuck you, Gortash, you piece of shit! I'm coming for you!)

    Act 3 Cazador stuff
In the crypt there's a scroll entitled Eternal Cruelty that talks about how the author's soul was made ink and imprisoned on the page unless you can find a way to free it.

Is there a way to do this? I've tried torching the scroll, nothing happens; I can't cast remove curse on it; I can't pick it up and carry it with me anywhere. Is this just spooky flavor?

Cazardor's whole mansion screams cut content - there's the frankly bizarre way you enter it, an entire non-functional puzzle you can find, the attics which have a couple of lore books and I M P L I C A T I O N S but goes absolutely nowhere, just a whole pile of stuff that clearly got yanked for time.

You can definitely feel where Cazador would have been his own Raphael level side character and quest area, and in general Astarion's act 3 stuff feels like it maybe didn't get as much time as Larian would have wanted to give it in a perfect world. I'll be curious to see if they revisit it and flesh things out any in an update down the road, once they've slept for 6 months and had some time to actually relax.

The next big patch is dropping on the 21st, but I think it's more of a mac support and bug fixes thing than content additions.

I would 110% prefer they take time to breath and rest and then think about where they expand, tweak, cut or whatever.

Game's absolotuey ripe for it, but act 3 is already A Lot (I've actually seen some strong arguments that the game should have been five acts - Act 1 ending with the grove finale, Act 2 being what's 1.5 now (Creche/Underdark), Act 3 being Shadow-cursed lands, Act 4 being a bit more of a low key, let you fuck around in baldurs gate and burn off some of the tension from act 3 - where a ton of the current Act 3 sidquests should go, basically, and act 5 being the "Shit, the absoloute's here and everything is on fire".).

I actually also do wonder if Act 3wouldnt have benefited from some kind of time gating mechanism - as in have a more clear "Here's all the things you could do, there are X long rests until everything goes to pot, what do you prioritize?". Coulda been good, coulda fallen flat on it's face - Act 3 is as it stands, Very Werid and A Lot.

this fucking chair is brutal. DC 30 checks? I have no way to reach those numbers. I would have to crit. And I reloaded and tried it 6 times and hilariously failed all three checks every single time

I'm glad I let Lae'zel go first I guess, but at least now I know I can bench her, with three of her stats lowered. Maybe permanently? How do I fix this? Fuck. Feels like a punishment for something. This is mean, y'all

Greater restore does not fix it, even though its specific purpose is to do that. Tadpoles will though, as stated when you mouse over the condition.

    Well that's something I guess
regardless, it's just a weird move to punish you for doing this quest line. Some of the other supposed cures are pretty clearly bait, but this one is tied into a companion quest and those are supposed to be understood as things you shouldn't skip. And you don't have the option to like, declare that it looks suspicious and we aren't going to use it. If you never get in the chair that quest just won't complete, I assume? Just a weird set of choices around this whole thing

I remember the DCs when I got into it being doable (I got them, at the very least, and I don't really have minmaxed stats or anything), so I think the way to save things is to offer yourself as guinea pig before Lae'zel goes, the way I did?

Probably it's easier for your character to oppose the machine because Lae'zel was raised to believe in the zaith'isk while your character is more likely to go "wait, this thing is literally trying to kill me, this is bullshit", I suppose?

Still, being able to just fuck up your stats is mean as shit, no argument there

As a fighter, it's not like Lae'zel really feels the missing INT, WIS or CHA. I've used her constantly since failing all three checks and haven't noticed at all. It's certainly a feels bad moment, but it's not as crippling as it looks.

  • SixshotStrikerSixshotStriker Registered User regular

You have a few choices. First, decide who goes in the chair. IIRC, Lae'zel has higher checks to pass (more like impossible) and in my playthrough, she straight up tells the doc that she's still infected. This always led to a fight. The other option is to get in the chair yourself. I believe this has lower checks and you can bluff your way past the doctor by saying it cured you thereby avoiding the fight. Of course if you fail, you still have to fight.

    Why does this matter?
When you fight the inquisitor, if Lae'zel was in the chair, you can point to that as proof that something is up/bullshit. If you get in the chair, you have to convince her with a high DC check. Also, don't sass the queen. It will end badly for you.

What idiot makes a throne of books?

So I find the Sorcery shop and the wizard who has been asking for the Nightsong, tell him to get bent and head back to camp to tell Dame. She flies off and I follow and we kick his shit around. Brought Wyll along since I figured I could use a counterspell and Gale is currently visiting Orin and the Bhaal gang.

Dame put in some work. soloed half the elementals herself and in a great moment of intellect, the wizard tried shoving her, failed, then ran away. Which gave Dame an opportunity attack and knocked off half his health. Good job guy.
