Star Trek is the space socialists, right? I always imagined just like the crew all WANT to be boring space scientists and explorers somewhere in the Federation there are the all day everyday gamers.
More like space fascists. They insist their way is so right they don't even help civilizations about to be wiped out.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

okay there, commander eddington
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
I like that DS:9 actually recognized the federations flaws as being flaws, there was disagreement and debate and criticism of their utopia
because the concept of a utopia is nonsensical, even in the culture books there is believable political disagreement and those are people who can whine enough and get their own planet

Well the Maquis were right in the same way an arab terrorist would be right if he listed all the horrible things the US has done, but then when he drives a bomb truck into a school it kind of doesn't matter how right he is
They got every single civilian under their protection killed by making them think they could win because of the validity of their cause
edit: again I appreciate that the show was aware of this and Sisko kept arguing this point with Eddington, one of my biggest pet peeves is when the protagonists are wrong or assholes and the writers seem completely clueless (see: Atlantis, Star Wars Prequels)

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Started playing CK2 as the Count of Leon in Brittany, Count Ben of the family Arwhal.
Had 3 wonderful daughters by the time I was 45 - Bleric, age 12, Shivahn, age 10, and Neco, age 6.
A year later, @knitdan Knitdan, a male heir, is born, immediately disinheriting all of you.
A year after that, Count Ben keels over from the stress of ruling, and Count Knitdan ascends to the throne at the age of 15 months.
...
Well played, Knitdan.

Is that the one where whoopi Goldberg is like "some of you might not even exist" or something and looks at Tasha yar
If they're a hive-mind does that mean it's like the fountains at the Bellagio?
yeah
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Yes. The icest of ice. If I recall correctly seeing Tasha is how Space Whoop knew shit was wrong.

Does it lead to having dumb ideas like this one
but his name is chad
but also i've met him a couple times and he seems cool
i dunno though
chad should be mayor of that bud light party town don't you think?
Oh hmm. What should I get?
She was a magic bartender? Was she a weird alien secretly or something?
though also he's been an adult for at least fifteen years now and so i guess it's on him at this point
Is he not?
she was pretty open about being a weird alien
Not secretly, but yes.
Just so sad.
Her planet watched Doctor Who and she liked to tell people she could tell when the time line wasn't right anymore.
She was Uatu if Uatu ran a bar onboard a ship.
Yeah she was an alien that looked exactly human, but they existed outside of time or something? I can't recall.

Chads always seem cool at first.
But then they're like, "Yeah bro, let me borrow $20m on this bond issue to fund a commercial zone redevelopment."
And then they dump it all into an energy drink startup and garcinia cambogia MLM schemes.
But she didn't even have a bumpy forehead
