Then they whine about a skills-shortage when they can't get people with the qualifications they actually need.
Like, it's actually pretty well documented now that the whole 'skills-shortage' thing is more or less PR bullshit by corporations trying to cover for the fact that they wanna pay half what someone can actually get with their job.
They're looking for people who can't afford to refuse that question, you see
From what I see in most postings, they seem to be looking for people who can't afford to ask any questions. So many of them feel like a list of demands, a bunch of skills they want and working requirements. And yet, won't have a word about what's in it for the employee. At best there'll be something vague about benefits, but often they don't even have that.
I'm sure it's fine for recruiting from fresh grads or the unemployed, but as a dude who has a job currently, it's rare to see anything that would motivate me to make the effort.

Job listing: unpaid internship
Requirements: a doctorate and ten years experience in the field...
I get why they do it, I just don't get why they waste everyone's time.
The ones you want to hire won't even make it past the first interview because they'll be too busy trying to contain their laughter and the other people that accept those levels of pay probably aren't the best employees either.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Anything that bangs on in the ad about what a fun company they are I immediately write off as chancers looking to underpay. Mostly because 90% of the time that's all they talk about, in terms of benefits
I had to take my car in today to get the tire replaced and my coworker wasn’t available to cover. I tried phoning my boss but got no answer.
Was told my car would be done by 3 pm at the very latest, likely earlier. It was done by 3.15.
I had no way of getting back to work and no one to call so I spent the whole day at Starbucks and Barnes & Noble. Came back to the office for 10 mins and I had left the phone off voicemail, whoops.
Still, I think I escaped. Boss never did call and I had no emails. There’s just two people in the office and they probably didn’t even notice my absence. As long as the CEO didn’t try calling (he shouldn’t have, but he might’ve) I think I got away with not working today.
Employers want to pay enough so that they can brag about how under budget they do their business and all the profit they have to investors.
And to sneak themselves mega-bonuses : )))

Also I don't want to say too much because it's still super early times, but there is a chance that I might be able to snag a job at BMW working warehouse under a really cool dude.
The downside is that it'd be night shift.
The upside is that it would be guaranteed eight hour days and five day weeks, since there are already three set shifts and a weekend crew of part-timers.
Oh, and I'd be getting paid $25,000 more a year.
I'll be finding out more within a few weeks hopefully.

I've also had kids I let go to the bathroom and then not come back until literally 2 minutes before class and whoops you get a referral for just skipping class
I have to sympathize with Oghulk's predicament. It sucks that bathroom breaks are so tightly controlled that students have to beg during classes, but it's also prone to a lot of abuse.
I've been teaching an after school class for the past several months and generally the students want to be there and will be respectful. But I've had a few like Oghulk mentions in the quote where they take off at the beginning of class to "go to the bathroom" and then return at two minutes till the end smelling like smoke. I can only assume they think an after school program isn't real school so they can do whatever they want. Sometimes I've even had a few not come back because one of their regular teachers caught them smoking and they were kicked from the program. It's a shame because I can't devote time to the troubled students without neglecting the good students.
Generally I try to give the students the benefit of the doubt, but I could easily see myself in a situation like Oghulk where the students must stay because of some school requirement beyond my control.

Also: hello crippling depression over life choices regarding my job. Boy I wish I had someone to talk to about this other than my father.
Hey man, I'll talk with you if you want.
I appreciate it. I got through the episode, thankfully I was able to recognize it for what it is and use coping mechanisms.

So I'm working on a show right now that some of you have probably heard about at some point (it had a spike in popularity during the Obama administration). Whoever is running the production is clearly a videogamer because I have noticed two things. One: all of the "carts" that are used to transport scenery are named after companion characters from Fallout 4. Literally all of them.
Two: the production's department identifier labels are full of easter eggs, like this one:
He's holding a fucking elipsoidal reflector spotlight and I cannot be more in love with it.
This is why I like working for the government. That’s never a concern. I know how much everyone in the entire organisation makes because all pay scales are public knowledge. Everyone gets paid the same for the level they’re at and you all get the same increases.
yup anyone here could look up my pay for last year if they knew my name and work place
I've looked up co-workers before, which is really only an indication of how much overtime people work, since we're all on the same pay scale. Lemme tell you, some people are working an insane amount of overtime.
I had a customer call in to cancel his card a hour or so ago, he had a charge from a cab company in another state. I explained to him that often times it bills out of state and a quick google of the company showed me that yes, they have cabs near where he was and yes their HQ is where it billed from.
"I still don't trust it. I don't remember taking a cab"
'You don't remember? Have you taken a cab at all in the last week or so?'
"Well I might have the other night. I dunno. I blacked out at the bar and woke up at home so something happened"
Also I don't want to say too much because it's still super early times, but there is a chance that I might be able to snag a job at BMW working warehouse under a really cool dude.

I work at BMW (not logistics though) and if you have any questions feel free to ask. I will say this though, all that shady shit that went down at your last job, BMW would totally do if they could get away with it. They just have a lot more eyes on them so they pretend to care more. It is less that they do not care about us, and more that they consider us incompetent replaceable peasants. Hate is a strong word but intense dislike is how most of management views us.
My first night as the back up support
Chaos reigns and I handled it like I knew it
It felt so odd yet familiar to be once again in semi charge of a group of people and the freedom to call shots on a 3000+ truck we somehow pulled it off. I had 3 call outs I just swapped out people
I sent people where I needed them told others they had the choice of go here or go here
Again it was just odd to have that level of power and work it
People made fun of how I unlike some of other supports that I was honest and upfront and was willing to make calls based on what I saw.
One of our transferred line cooks from another concept goes by 'C' and he is a very tall, black man who is very much in tune with the rap and hip-hop scene here in Dallas, so much so that he has given most of us our very own rapper names.
Mine is 'White Ramekin.'
This is a ramekin:
'Okay, C, I'll bite. Why is that my rap name?'
'Because you white as hell and you hold ... all ... the sauce.'
New job is now going better.
I tried to fix the build shit. I fixed it somewhat, but it's still kind of cooked. I don't have the energy to fix it further.
Now I've moved on to more "this needs to be fixed broadly" problems. This is probably going to be less frustrating for me to fix though and have a larger impact.
It also feels less like an "I' fixing bad things." and more like "I'm improving things that can be improved." perspective is important.
My nickname in the Corps was Genasix because a lot of people thought I was a failed super solider project, a defective killbot, or not human as I did things above what most could do or the fact I just walked away from some pretty hairy situations that others did not.

'Skills-shortage' is colloquial shorthand for 'minimally qualified for the position, and also willing to give regular handjobs to supervisor staff while working 80 hour weeks for no overtime pay, and also work for 10% less than the industry standard'

I don't have a rap name but two black guys at my wedding did have a rap battle to determine which one would get to be "my black friend" so that was great.

This is actually the law now California-wide. It's also law now that if you request it, a potential employer HAS to provide a pay range for the job.
thankfully i have a big wedding to go to saturday, so i can start things nice and hungover
