That comic is one of my most vivid childhood memories for some reason. I'm pretty sure I was in Aus, and was bought it to get me through a long car journey. I was just devastated by the events of it.

I had a similar experience with a copy of What if Cable Had Destroyed the X-Men?
As a white boy growing up in a conservative family I gravitated toward Stone Cold Steve Austin as a young man. He's not on the level Hogan and Warrior are for shitty opinions, but he does have a dv past with at least one former spouse so there are no heroes.
Still fuck Hogan. I'm sad Hemsworth is involved in rehabbing a racist.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Apparently until last night, I got Alita the anime with another 90s anime about a mechanical lady, Armitage the III. So all of the plot synapses were super confusing to me. In fairness, I saw both of them like 20 years ago.
I've totally seen this. I watched on cable when I was in high school. I'm pretty sure it's the first anime thing I ever saw. I think about it every so often and wonder if it's really as good as it seemed to me at the time.

Armitage III is generally considered to have aged poorly. A few cool action shots but not a whole ton else. This is true for a lot of 80s/90s cyberpunk-y anime miniseries (and I say this as someone who really deeply enjoys trashy cyberpunk-y anime)
Yeah I'm talking more about the direct to video miniseries like Cyber City Oedo 2808, AD Police, Bubblegum Crisis, and even the Alita anime (which one of the rare cyberpunk anime to actually have a much better manga attached). They get pretty damn pulpy. I totally get why they're cult classics but also I am self-aware enough about it to understand why Alita is a tricky sell almost on par with John Carter of Mars
bubblegum crisis is good, I think it still holds up well
then again I haven't seen any of those others so maybe my taste is suspect
The original is pretty good yeah, it's probably about the peak of that particular movement of schlock sci-fi in Japan
I do think it's really fucking funny how Kishiro Yukito basically disowned the Alita anime, but it was enough of a cult classic abroad that Cameron and Rodriguez more or less paced the movie to it

Ah the Gawker incident. In which a secret, rich white literal vampire business man and a racist term spouting sushi filled cheater were somehow not the grossest people involved in a legal case.

Imagine what the mainstream live action version of Tenchi Muyo will be like when that inevitably happens!
You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.

Ehhh I still think they’re the grossest but I also really enjoyed/really miss Gawker so...
But I don't know if I can think of one that looks better than it
It should have beaten Jungle Book for the visual effects Oscar
it's a lot like white god in that any flaws i can find in it, i completely ignore just because of all the cool shit they managed to pull off/all the positive energy put into it

I don't fully remember who I really liked growing up watching wrestling. I know Hogan, for sure, I'm guessing I loved Ultimate Warrior. I had a foam Hacksaw Jim Duggan 2x4 from when the WWF came to town.
Outside of that...I stopped watching when I was still pretty young, and didn't really pay attention again until Wrestlemania 2000 came out on the N64, and...well, WCW was mostly dead. I do remember a lot of kids in my middle school assigning themselves to various NWO and DX factions, but not really having any context for what the fuck was going on. I did go to a real late period WCW house show in an almost entirely empty arena, because someone had a bunch of extra tickets?

I wasn't big into wrestling as a kid, but I liked Undertaker.

I'm from upstate New York so I had to like Hacksaw Jim Duggan, but Macho Man is the best.
I love that damn near every other wrestling all-time great is like "oh no, dude, Sting is great, that guy fuckin' kicks ass"
I will always have a soft spot for Jim Duggan, because he and my uncle Bob looked like twins separated at birth
Still fuck Hogan. I'm sad Hemsworth is involved in rehabbing a racist.

the perspective room alone is just extremely my jam
Really? I should check it out.

They never went away out here.
Fuck, they make TV shows and movies out of them now.

I adored this scene so fucking much
But he normally looks like dr venture. Like sometimes you're like "this voice doesn't line up" but not with him.

He definitely has a voice that fits his appearance but it's still weird to fully see that it's a real person. It's just such a cartoon voice

Nowadays Chris Jericho holds that title.
which is amazing because wrestlers shit talk each other constantly
Yeah that's how I look at any of the simpson cast members.
