I messed around with some Ozrhov anti-Golos cards last night:
-Revenge of the Ravens does a great job slowing down the zombie horde. Especially if you can get multiple.
-Ethereal Absolution also great, but slow. Golos usually has 6 mana several turns before you do. It really sucks to get stolen, though.
-Hushbringer was good for a one-off lol to counter the golos ability, and potentially would shut down agent of treachery but it was so easy to kill
-Ill gotten Inheritance was bad, obviously, but even worse that it got stolen lol.
-ashiok is neat but honestly expensive for what they do.
-The Bolos Statue 6 drop had a funny interaction with Golos's ability, but eh
Since Golos can run answers to everything, it's really hard to counterbuild. An essentially 1 card combo is just too strong to deal with. I liked what revenge of the ravens did for my self preservation, but it got me no closer to winning. Any win condition i dropped was eventually stolen by agent. Curious about trying to either an Esper build or Dimir build. I actually have three copies of that enchantment copy spell, that along with fae of wishes may help quite a bit. I can run more Ashioks in that package.
Alternatively, I can try incorporating Revenge of the Ravens in an Esper Stax base?
So far, it feels like i am putting myself at a massive disadvantage by not putting in field/golos, so i won't be spending any rare wildcards anywhere but Golos/Field for the time being.
Hushbringer should have blocked all ETBs, not just creatures. If Yarok can double them all, HushyB should be able to shut them down!
That would have made a very good fields of the dead answer
It would also hit Lotus Vale, scry lands, gain lands, Guild Globe/Golden Egg, Prison Realm/Conclave Tribunal, Guild Summit, Oath of Kaya, The Great Henge, etc.
And that's just in standard.

Probably end up being too powerful... it would kill O-rings, Grazers, Goose and Golden Eggs, Oath of Kaya, all those auto-equipments... you could even pack your own ETB permanents and bounce Hushbringer with Teferi when you wanted to use them.
There are still some cards that can deal with Field of the Dead. Assassin's Trophy, Agent of Treachery, Rubble Reading and Tectonic Rift springs to mind.

Yea trophy is a great card in general, but a field deck will always have more fields and way more ability to hit fields than you will have to be getting trophies.

I think I am gonna have to give up on esper stax.
It’s a very fun deck in a vacuum but having to engineer it specifically to fight against FotD is the most frustrating thing.
I think I might just try and cook up a mill deck that is dedicated to fucking with FotD.

So far this deck works out pretty well...unless the enemy gets his FOTD on turn one or two, and that has happened way too often tonight
EDIT: Though I think I will just swap the krasis for ding dang counterspells
So here's my question, since so far about 90% of the decks today have been field of the dead, how do you design a deck that is purely made to fuck with them.
So here's my question, since so far about 90% of the decks today have been field of the dead, how do you design a deck that is purely made to fuck with them.
U/B with Unmoored Ego and Ashiok in main? Wishclaw to find them.
You could add green for Assassin's Trophy. No access to land destruction to kill the Fields is a big issue right now.
As someone who played a Jund Land Destruction deck all of last Standard, I'll say that it's basically impossible now. Field of Ruin + Crucible of Worlds was big game against Field of the Dead but both are gone now.
Currently we've got Assassin's Trophy, Casualties of War, Thought Erasure (kind of, it hits important cards) and like Admanb said, Unmoored Ego and Ashiok. But that puts you into three colors and is also slow as hell.
I'll try and put together a list later. But, I think the big problem will be that it might have a slight advantage against Field and poor match-ups versus everything else.
Not that a 6-mana spell in yet another color helps, but there's also Bedeck//Bedazzle.
Yeah, I ran that in my Jund list as early removal and late-game land destruction. Didn't add it to the list because it seems we're being pushed out of Red and into Blue. And Casualties is already 6 mana...
*Edit*
Here's a big, long list of Sultai cards that I think could make a maybe reasonable deck. Having looked through the cards in standard I think it'd end up as a combination of land destruction, hand disruption, and mill.

Another day, another Simic Flash player's brain broken by the fact that I don't need to cast my kitties to get them on the battlefield, I just need to leave a little snack for them (snacks may contain 100% other cats)
I kinda want there to be a not completely terrible infinite mana combo so i can do it, cast folio, draw my deck, play 2nd folio that i drew, and then mill whatever is left of opponents deck, and say go. probably some combo with faeburrow elder and either guantlet of light or high alert. At least with high alert you could theoretically cast dance of the manse for 3 and get back high alert, theater of horrors, and a folio or something then make infinite r/g/b mana and either kill them with theater or roll with the folio. there is so much creature hate in the format though you would probably need to keep up countermagic and run crystal slipper to let the elder even tap for mana.

why play a second folio when you can just untap your first one?
I seriously doubt they'd ban Golos over Field of the Dead.
E: They might do it because they sometimes prefer to ban enablers rather than engines, but Golos himself is not a particularly threatening card and Cavalier of Thorns is such a simple swap in I doubt it significantly powers the deck down.

Ok, so let me set the stage for ya'll about this crazy match I just played.
I'm at 5 life after my opponent's combat step. He's at 3.
My side of the board is Ayara and an order of midnight. I have a gutterbones in my hand and one in my GY. I have a knight of the ebon legion in my hand as well. And my opponent knows all this.
His side of the board is Golos and seven zombies (2 fields of the dead out). And enough mana to cast Agent of Treachery and Circuitous route.
I wait for him to realize that I am dead on board and he just needs to take my Ayara and then crack his circuitous route for the win.
He pauses, takes careful consideration of the battlefield, then casts circuitous route and then casts agent of treachery on my.......order of midnight.
My turn I play my 3 creatures and say GG. He then forfeited the next game.

I am starting to like this deck I brewed more. It has a lot of bad matchups and you have to be aggressive in mulligening to get an early boardstate, but you can absolutely win with it:
4 Revenge of Ravens (ELD) 104
2 Ritual of Soot (GRN) 84
2 Rankle, Master of Pranks (ELD) 101
3 Foulmire Knight (ELD) 90
4 Gutterbones (RNA) 76
2 Cry of the Carnarium (RNA) 70
3 Legion's End (M20) 106
3 Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage (WAR) 83
4 Murderous Rider (ELD) 97
4 Knight of the Ebon Legion (M20) 105
4 Castle Locthwain (ELD) 241
20 Swamp (WAR) 257
3 Order of Midnight (ELD) 99
2 Ayara, First of Locthwain (ELD) 75
SIDEBOARD
1 Cry of the Carnarium (RNA) 70
1 Rankle, Master of Pranks (ELD) 101
1 Duress (M20) 97
1 Legion's End (M20) 106
2 The Elderspell (WAR) 89
2 Ritual of Soot (GRN) 84
1 Duress (M19) 94
1 Duress (XLN) 105
2 Disfigure (M20) 95
3 Ashiok, Dream Render (WAR) 228
The kinda idea is to go wide until you get a stalled boardstate with revenge of the ravens and then win via your multiple noncombat options or a gigantic ass Ebon Legion knight.
My favorite wins with this so far was when the RDW guy swung with 12 creatures at me and ended up doing more damage to himself than to me, or when I faced off against an obnoxious life-gain deck and eventually won out because turns out Ebon Legion is really, really good in the lategame for suddenly doing 10 damage on an empty board.
EDIT: I haven't really figured out the sideboard too well, I'm mainly taking this in Bo1 for now.

Gotta give Day9 credit, most of his review was a meme but he did say he seriously thought people were overvaluing Once Upon a Time.
And so far that seems pretty accurate? Like it's good in certain decks but doesn't seem to be format defining or broken?
Someone here thought it would even get banned in modern! As far as I can tell it didn't even make a showing in modern at SCG did it?
Morale of the story: card reviews are always all over the place until people start actually playing with them
