One of the most highly regarded PlayStation games ever made has a date with the Xbox 360. Microsoft today announced that Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of GameSpot's Greatest Games of All Time, will debut on Xbox Live Arcade this coming Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT.
As the first title to be brought over to Live Arcade from another console, Symphony of the Night will feature "modernized" sound, widescreen support, achievements, and leaderboards. Players will be able to choose between the original graphics or altered visuals that address sprite pixelation when the game is played in high definition.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is rated T for Teen and will be available for 800 Microsoft Points ($10).
Yeah, the only one that even comes close is the Xbox 360 launch, when Geometry Wars Evolved was released. I mean, Alien Hominid, TMNT, and Symphony of the Night? Things are really looking up!
I can see myself putting another 200 hours into this shit. I had to have every drop from every monster in this game. No matter how rare, crappy or how long it took.

I will do it again.
I still have my PS1 disc, and I'm buying this anyway.
If that means what I think it means, and not "we stuck really annoying turtle borders on your TV," then I will give them my money just to encourage that kind of improvement.

Man after seeing what turtles looked like on my HDTV, man looks like I'm going to be hooking up my 360 to a SDTV to play this, the filter makes the game look like ass, and super pixelation just isn't going to cut it.

Just so you know, you can stretch the game image in TMNT to fill the entire screen and get rid of the border.
I wonder how this will be received in general. Will it be considered unstoppably difficult due to the ease of completing recent games in the series?

What?
Since when was SotN hard?
Seriously. Once you get over that initial hump of the first two bosses, you're swimming in swag and level ups.
You can't possibly tell me that the newer CV games wouldn't make ANY old CV game seem like the hardest thing ever made. :P
That said, what hump with the first two bosses? You perform Hellfire ONCE and Slogra is dead, and Gaibon is nothing by himself. Or you just use the Axe from the previous room to annihilate Gaibon first. Takes longer but just as easy.
Combine that with, well, let me put it this way: We take serious liberties with what games are in our kiosks at the store. Typically it's always a classic game anthology. People that have no problem playing 3D action games CANNOT FIGURE OUT King of Dragons, Magic Sword, etc. Mega Man X Collection exposed to the general gaming public is hilarity incarnate. Even Otogi gives people a run for their money because, well, man fuck humanity.
Anyways my point is that the game may be too difficult for its general audience, especially if their only previous exposure to Castlevania was on the GBA/DS.

As an official Gaming Wimp(tm) I can chime in and say that SOTN is more than reasonable throughout most of the game. There are hard bits and bosses, but then again, I had no problem going around the castle and leveling up, listening to the awesome music the whole time. People who are obsessed with progressing through bosses ASAP may get a little frustrated, but a lot of times those are the people with inhuman reflexes that can just study a boss for 10 minutes and whip it (pun intended) on skill alone.

Symphony of the Night isn't too difficult, at least until you reach the inverted castle. (Spoiler) Galamoth is a beast if you don't have gear that protects you from lightning... even the heal spell won't save you from his wrath! Get the right equipment for the job, however, and he's cake with creamy chocolate frosting. His attacks will actually HEAL you with the right rings and armor!

Fucking Castle Crashers, plz.
Suckers.
By my understanding CC was pushed to 2008 to take advantage of new size limit.

From what I understand it's just filtering, most people don't like the effect but luckily it can be turned off.
Shit.

There's rumor of a lode runner version coming up. What's known about this? Does anyone remember this version?:

The multiplayer was awesome, here's hoping they port that version!
I want Konami to have my money!
I lost weeks to TLR and it's level editor when I was younger.
The sequel, Mad Monk's Revenge is apparantly free on the creators website. I downloaded it, but I can't get it to run right.
I'm afraid of what might happen if I do.

It's nowhere near as ugly as the TMNT border.

On topic: SotN = the shit. Cant wait!

So you spend more than you need to. It's a devious trick, really.

I was severely over hyped for it, by other people. Mostly on this board!
But it was good enough that I wasn't totally let down.
I found the last third of the game(good ending) to be neat for about 10 minutes, then hokey and asinine.
