The mental image of titans running around with big dumb googlie eyes is cracking me up. I would probably spend money on this, as long as it was applied to baddie titans as well.

Tried this with the free weekend. Only took 3 matches and the existence of a sp campaign to go ahead and drop the 35 on it. Should be a nice change of pace with bf1.

I tried BF1 after playing TF2. It's impossible for me to BF now. Titan fall just feels so much better.

So the Angel City 24/7 playlist did something remarkable for me - playing the same map over and over for two hours let me actually learn a bit about the map. By the end I even swapped out grapple for A-Wall for the first time ever - setting up an A-Wall right in front of a couple drop pods in Bounty Hunt is pretty fun, it turns out. I also got enough Ronin playtime to unlock nuclear eject and now Ronin is my best robo-pal forever. I also finally got to level 15 and unlocked Legion, which I have used almost not at all and which looks ...fun?

So far everything in this game looks fun. Even when I'm doing really poorly, I'm still having fun. I don't know a better endorsement I could give an FPS than that.

Man. The Wingman Elite when you get in the grove feels real good. Run around a corner and pop a pilot in the head for a 1 shot kill. Double taps to the body. When your aim is on point this becomes a god tier weapon.

When your aim is not on point then you are constantly berating yourself and your shit aim.

I'm pretty sure the Elite operates as a projectile weapon instead of a hitscan one, so that might account for some aiming difficulty with it.

So, thanks to friends and co-workers, I had a bunch of Mountain Dew codes, and therefore Coliseum tickets. I decided to blow through them all this weekend.

    Man, that mode sucks.

It's basically just a 50/50 spinner on whether you get an advocate gift or not. You will either get matched up with someone who will destroy you, or somebody who you will destroy in 30 seconds flat. Every once in a while, you get matched with an asshole who, when down 2-0, will suddenly choose to spend the entire round wall running around the top of the arena. Unless you get a really good/lucky shot off, he'll tick the entire timer down, end the round in a draw, causing you to repeat the round. Eventually, he'll get a lucky shot off an kill you, then it will end the match at 2-1 and not credit you with a win.

I never want to play Coliseum again.

Is anyone else getting performance problems in MP after the angel city patch? Before I never dropped below 80 (i5 4590 / GTX 1060), now I'm constantly getting some noticeable hitching. The Respawn forums mention something about a memory leak, but I can't find anything else about it.

Some days Blue wonders why anyone ever bothered making numbers so small; other days she supposes even infinity needs to start somewhere.

I'm not sure if it was the patch, but during the free trial, I saw a spike in lag/performance issues. Could just be related to the influx of players.

I don't remember which one it was but I was screwing around with a sniper main weapon pistol secondary in beta and wound up just mostly using the pistol. It was really strong and killing people left and right with it.

Tried out the sticky grenade launcher for the first time just now. Seemed pretty nice going full crazy squirrel with wall running while raining down nades everywhere.

The last person who got a code said it didn't work for them, I typed it in straight from the bottlecap so I figure there are probably people out there using keygens for XP codes. I kind of think that's a little sad but at the same time I don't fault anyone who takes steps to make it so that they don't have to buy Doritos or Mountain Dew.

Hit Gen3 on my pilot last night.

I hate that it resets the names on all your character slots :(

Also, tried out the Devotion for awhile. It's powerful, but I'm not a fan of the fire rate ramp. Decided to switch to the Spitfire. It's less damage per shot, but the consistent fire rate works better for me.

I'm actually finding a lot of the "starter" weapons tend to be the best. I've regened the R-201, EVA-8, and the CAR and I feel like those are better than a lot of their counterparts.

I really like the Devotion, I think it might be edging out the standard assault rifle (R something?) as my favourite mid-long range weapon. Up close it's not quite as good as an SMG if you're starting cold, but once it's fired up it's like a buzzsaw. But then it's also accurate and damaging at distance where you can either just straight up start firing and hope your aim is good enough with the first few slow bullets to drop them before they can move, or aim away from the enemy while you spin up and flick to them at full revs where upon they're dead before they can even think about evasive manoeuvres

I think the spitfire just unlocked for me, I should give that a go too.

So, I finished the single-player campaign of TitanFall 2 last night. It took me four days of dedicated play to get through the 6-hour campaign. Overall, it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. Two major points stick out in my mind:

The level in the middle of the game where they use the really innovative "time-shift" mechanic. Playing through that section honestly felt like being a Super-Hero! I was really hoping that they would bring back that same mechanic at the end of the game (the setup was there) but it didn't happen.

At the end of the game, the climax felt really rushed and didn't really feel cohesive with the rest of the experience. I mean, this story wouldn't have been out-of-place in an average action film. Despite that not-terribly-high standard, the final hour or so managed to move the bar even lower. The finale and denouement were predictable, poorly written and actually served to detract from the game experience.

Still, it was a fun game and I'm glad I played it.

    Questions for the MP peeps:

    1. Is it worth playing MP if one is stupidly horrible at FPS games? Without any exaggeration, my K/D in Destiny (while playing with friendly PA peeps) was usually in the 0.2 to 0.4 range. Destiny was a fun game in MP even when one is not very good. Battlefield, on the other hand, is not. Where does Titanfall slot in on that continuum?
    2. Is there a PA "network" in the game? If nothing else I'd like to join (and then leave) this so that I can get the "Join a multiplayer network" trophy.

We've got some pretty good Destiny players on this site, so playing with them might've actually been bad for your K/D because you might've been getting matched with more skilled players than you would've otherwise.
Anyway, Titanfall has a thing with most of its MP modes where there'll be shitty little AI controlled grunts like you fight in the campaign, and killing them provides points and fills your titan meter so even if you're getting outshot by the other players, you can just try avoiding them and killing the AI and still be a benefit to the team. I find it makes bad matchups less frustrating, personally. Even if you lose every single engagement with another player you can still do something.
There's definitely a PA network on Xbone, and I think I've heard mention of one on PC, and I dunno about PS4.

I'm not a great shot and my reaction time is a lot to be desired but the game is so mobile and it is almost impossible to camp (you simply can't cover every approach on your own) I'd say that map knowledge and how to move around are pretty important and can help cover some fps deficiencies.

Bounty hunt does care all that much about pilot kills. I was top score wise for the first 4 rounds in one game without landing a single kill. Conversely I've seen players with 25+ kills right at the bottom of the scoresheet.

Also once you are in a Titan you are a big slow thing anyway.

The thing that is going to kill you a lot when you start is not knowing the maps.

You know I have had various amounts of fun with all of the different titans. Each being fun for different reasons and different scenarios. Played Tone quite awhile, and while easy it wasn't terribly engaging. Legion was really fun as well. The Titan I have gone back to for some reason and been playing quite a bit though is Ion. The shoulder laser cannon does some serious damage when you get to poke from a distance. Sucks that you basically have to snipe pilots with it though since the splitter cannon can't kill em for shit. :?

    @Stupid

I love, LOVE Destiny multiplayer (and I'm not half bad, though nowhere near as good as some others in the Destiny Thread), I also despise battlefield style fps's.

With that context, Titanfall 2 multiplayer is a hoot. The player characters aren't near as mobile as they are in Destiny on the ground, but as soon as you learn how the movement/wall running in the game works you'll actually be faster and more mobile. (Non-default controls will help too... I think Evolved is the pick of the litter for this)

The times-to-kill are faster than Destiny and positioning/movement feel more important than Gunskill, but it's nothing like the same combat style as battlefield.

Lastly there are currently three networks for PA on the PS4 side... I think the one we're supposed to be in is "Penny Arcade Forums", but if you do a network search for "Penny" you'll find all three. (Maybe @Quid could add the right network name to the OP? I'm pretty sure it's Penny Arcade Forums)

I switched to Bumper Jumper and would like to use Evolved but I tend to press too hard on my sticks so I crouch even when I'm not trying to slide/bunny hop. Might have to give it another go, anything to get melee off the stick so I don't flail around like a blind man.

Someone told me that to do a melee execution you need to hold melee? This feels harder to do with a stick than with the O/(xbox version) button.

Am I wrong with that though? Because using bumper jumper (and having yet to swap to Evolved) I've punched the shit outta a lot of guys from behind but I've yet to once have an execute animation as a pilot.

Just my opinion, so it's only worth a few grains of salt:

KDR in games like this are highly overvalued and overrated. There are modes where you have to charge in like an idiot in order to prevent the other team from scoring anything, and deaths/kills don't do anything for the team scores (e.g., Bounty Hunt, Hardpoint, CTF, Titan vs Titan). I could care less about my KDR. I'm more excited about the Top 3 metric; I'm somewhere around 520/560 (Top-3/Games-Played respectively). To me, that speaks more volume than KDR. I have some Bounty Hunt games where I probably die 40 times and get 13 kills, but my score is 3,000+. That would put a 0.325 KDR, which makes me look terrible, but a damn good score. On the flip side, I've seen some people that had 40 kills and probably died maybe 13 times, but their score was 250. That gives them a KDR of 3.08, which makes them look damn good, but they did shit to help their team, so they actually kind of sucked.

Modes like Pilot vs Pilot make much more sense to show a KDR on, as that's the entire scoring system of the mode. I'd even argue that Attrition's KDR is a worthwhile statistic. Other games out there operate more like this, and KDR means a ton. In TF, this is just another stat to throw up on a dashboard, but means very little. It's like a pie chart showing how many people own cars to determine how much road work needs to be done. Owning doesn't equal usage, and usage is where the real value is here. Maybe not the greatest analogy, but I tried.

While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.
