I hate the school holidays. I get so little painting done that it ceases to be funny.
This is from, like, a week ago.
Since then I've glued the panels to the lower body and have been finishing off smaller details. Meanwhile I've started on the base. The space in the middle will be a toxic river created using greens and some Vallejo Still Water - I've never used it before, but it has the potential to look great. I've also appropriated four nurglings who'll be frolicking in said sludge.
Working on a 1500pt list using model I already have for an upcoming tournament. Played a couple games at my place to test it out this weekend and decided to take a few full army pictures.
This army was originally painted back in 5th edition, but I've slowly added to it over the years. Not the best pictures but I figured I would share anyway.
With the announcement of Mk. III I guess I won't be getting into Warmachine until I see what the changes do to list building.
I haven't painted in a while for a lot of reasons but I recently decided to do a Night Lord Marine because I hadn't in a while. Only base colors so far but I'm thinking I'll paint the right knee pad red, doing lightening on the left shin and a reverse bloody hand-print on the right shoulder.
Was pondering how to achieve that Neverborn skin tone, a slightly blue-purple gray skin tone.
So I'm going to make an experiment - I'll do an oil wash with Payne's Grey over a Vallejo Ghost Grey primer. I decided to give it a gloss coat first, waiting for that to dry before I move on.

That picture definitely looks like the flesh has more warmth to it. I'd suggest a warm gray like GW Rakarth Flesh with a mix of flesh and purple washes.
It's a really effective combo for that sickly, 'something ain't right with him' skin tone.
So weird question but I'd like to paint a miniature so it's got a sheild shiny enough to be a mirror (specifically so I can convert a Perseus miniature). Is this even possible
There are chrome/steel paints that can get really reflective (though not as in "see your reflection" levels of shiny), but it also depends on how smooth the surface is.

You're probably looking at silver leaf or other really specialised kit to make that happen I'm afraid. Try searching for mirror kits and historical restoration supplies.
If really, really shiny is good enough though, a coat of gloss varnish and Vallejo's Liquid Gold range (more colours than just gold) will get you pretty damn close.
A friend of mine found a mirror button at a sewing shop. If you are familiar with what buttons look like on "western" shirts, you have a perfect idea of what it was. He cut off the shield, and glued on the button. It was a little thick, but, it looked pretty snazzy.

Yes, but they have to be airbrushed. Companies also sell rattle cans if you don't have an airbrush. I recommend Spaz-Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome. The part needs to be very smooth prior to coating, and a gloss black is the best base.
Thanks so much for the guidance earlier!
I took a short couple of lessons from the local store owner.
It was...an experience.
But, now I feel more confident painting on my own at home!
Anyway, here's a couple of pictures of my very first figurine paint job.
I'm pretty proud of myself!

Do you, in fact, have any builds in this shop at all?

Started on the Scion. Decided against the oil wash, going to try that on some disposable model instead.
Rakarth Flesh basecoat, then an unholy mix of Drakenhof Nightshade, Leviathan Purple and some Agrax Earthshade to start working on the shadows. Needs less Agrax in it so I can see more of the blue-purple.
Well the base went slightly sideways: the Vallejo Still Water was layered on too thickly, causing it to shrink and crack and completely ruin the illusion.
I've peeled it off and repaired the damage. Meanwhile I've ordered some two-part resin water effect solution that promises not to shrink or crack. Hopefully it'll be here tomorrow but if not then it'll be a few more days until I can finally get a picture in the light box.
So, if you want to see the finished model on the unfinished base...

So usually I just use a bronzes flesh or elf flesh base, then add a little white to lighten it and layer that on as a highlight. Very simple

I really like the effect on the swordblade.

On reflection, I might tone down the brown pigment.

I've finally finished this Tau group. Didn't forget to shade the bases this time!

I love the wear you put on the larger bot's shield, and on the edges of the vehicle.

The bases really round these out soooooo well. Such a lovely contrast of colours and textures.

How did you do the bases? Looks pretty much like what I want for my Sons of Horus to complement the blue-green armor.
