As someone who lived in the same town until recently, it makes me sad. I even interviewed for a job there once.
Bummed to hear that. Loved Voliton's previous work.
Heres to hoping SRV has a character creator. One character I made myself and have the option to spec any way I want means 100% more to me.
Not really a fan of the whole cartoony premade hero trend that seems to be going around.
Look, I don't know who owns the IP anymore, but Goddamn if Volition wasn't involved with one of my favorite games of all time: FREESPACE 2
Everspace (and Elite: Dangerous) sorta filled the Spacesim void, but Volition could have certainly taken up the mantle and gotten back in there. I can only imagine what they could do with the capabilities of more modern game engines.
I thiiink freespace might be in one of those IP rights voids, where most people just aren't sure who has the rights.
I don't think so. As far as I know Interplay has the clear and uncontested rights.
I forget that interplay is even still a thing, so that's my bad.
Yeah, it's kinda like how Atari is still around. Less of a game company and more of a dude in a strip mall office.

The people that made the Freespace games aren't at Volition anymore, so I'm not sure if a new Freespace is really in their wheelhouse.
It's pay week dudes and dudettes! Consider saving some money buying games that you know you're not going to play for 2-3 months anyway because of that ginormous backlog monster, and donate some money to helping sick kids over at CHOP instead. Donate at least $5 to get in on some sick Steam raffles. Click on my quoted comment for more details.
Donated! Also, I'll throw in a $20 Steam gift card into the prize pool as well.
Hell yeah! Thanks @MNC Dover !!! And thanks for the donation too!
You heard em folks! Get them donations in! My dad donated $200 today, and Dover also donated $100 on top of the $20 Steam Card into the Prize Pool. Almost at $600 already!!
This is going back a few pages, since Beat Cop was included in the humble bundle I went eh may as well try it out. Intro "video" has a dude flipping through tv channels, the news is "fake news", the precinct you're in is 69 (get it 69, it's sooo waaackky because sex reference!), there's already a potshot at the one woman cop and I'm already going "ooohhh nooo..." looking at the screenshots on the rock, paper, shotgun website it looks like a fifteen year old who thinks he's edgy made it. I was really hoping for a police quest type game, not a time management style game.

Beat Cop had a really cool look to it. I think I might've been one of the first people to post its trailer in this thread a few months ago and probably mentioned how it looked like it had a similar vibe as Papers, Please. Then I watched a Giant Bomb quick look of it and decided it wasn't worth my time. I want to believe it's a Bulletstorm situation where the developers whose native language isn't English wrote the dialogue without realizing how it actually sounded in English, but Bulletstorm still turned out pretty funny. What I saw in Beat Cop's dialogue just looked lazy.
Can we get this sentiment like... bronzed and hung up somewhere?
I'm gonna try and make Shadow of War the last game I buy with loot crates. There are SO MANY games out there now, and I have so many games in my backlog, that if I can't find enough to play without stumbling across lootboxes, I'm probably doing it wrong.
For me, it's because of games like Tera, where they've gone down the road of making all the best cash shop stuff only available in loot crates you can buy for 150-195 points (about $1.50 - $1.95), with about a 1% chance of each crate actually having the item you want. Used to be if you wanted a specific costume you could buy it outright for anywhere from 995-1995 points, but now it's all random good-fucking-luck.
ESO is starting the same bullshit.
Obviously, it's a rich source of income for them. But we hates it, we doessss...
I'd started a lengthy post, but this is more succinct (thankies, Pixie). I'd rather be able to at least work towards what I'm after, rather than be at the mercy of a sadistic RNG, or having to drop a substantial amount of real money. And when it's both of those things? Ugh.
*glares also at Mass Effect 3 / Andromeda multiplayer*
I had a bunch of credits stored up in a game with lootboxes (Gears of War 4, if you're wondering). They recently put out a limited edition box with a MP character that I really, really wanted. (The Locust Queen) . You can't craft her and you can't get her in any other box. I spent all the credits I had to buy two of these boxes; the first box got me two super rare characters (both of which I didn't want) but not the queen and the second boss didn't even have a single super-rare in it. Over the course of the weekend I put in like 10 hours playing various modes of that game to farm up the credits to buy at least two more boxes, and still didn't get the character I wanted.
If I had paid the cash price for those boxes, it would have been at least $20. That means I could have spent $20 to get this character and still not have gotten her. In theory I could have spent more and not gotten her.
That's bullshit. Loot boxes can eat me. Microtransactions sucked, but this is barely-obfuscated gambling on top of that.
Looks like Idle Master artificially inflated the hours played on my games.
Thats going to bug the shit out of me going forward. Not that I don't spend a lot of time alt tabbed and screwing around but still.
That is a cost of Idle Master (that and the small but nonzero risk that Valve will decide it violates the terms of service.) I don't know why my playtime matters to me. It shouldn't at all. (Esp. since my older son destroys 'my' playtime on games like Civ V.) And yet it does enough that I haven't signed on for the $$ it would bring me. Steam certainly can bring out the weird in people.
I've had idle master running for a couple of weeks now, and made it up to 700+ cards, so decided it was time to start some selling. Turns out that was more complicated than I'd expected.
Steam Economy Enhancer is a safe way to click on "sell all", rather than the much sketchier chrome extension, so that was fine.
After that, Steam told me I couldn't sell stuff until I started using the mobile authenticator and had been doing so for a while, so I had to get that going.
So now I can click on "sell all" and have it run, but then Steam said "sorry, you can't list more than 200 things per year without doing some sort of tax form thingy"
I'm in Canada, so that was fairly simple.
But in the process of filling that out, I found myself on the Steam page with "total amount you have ever spent on Steam"
That was not a number I really needed to see, to be honest.
From there, I still have to click on "confirm" on my phone for each item I'm selling.
After the first 24 hours:
I have a distinct feeling that it's not going to get much higher from here, because anything worth buying has probably already been bought, but what the heck, it's free "money", I suppose.

One of the things that bothers me about it is I like to compare the time to HLTB pages so it really throws that off.
"How far am I from the end? Were those eleven hours mine or Idle Master's? Do I even remember playing this game at all? Is Idle Master sleeping with my wife? How do I know thats my child and not Idle Master's? etc."

It also makes me look like I've been a lot busier than I really have:
You'd think those 125-hour days would mean I'd have completed more games by now, but nope.
Sounds like you are idling several games at once, keep in mind that it slows the drop rate of cards quite a bit. (Unless your account is still flagged to only drop cards after 2 hours of playtime, then that option in Idlemaster is fine)

It's worse when you have porny VN type Steam games with dozens of hours played. Makes it especially awkward when IRL friends who know nothing about Steam visit your profile. I...I was idling!

Oh, that's interesting -- I should check the options, I think I'm just running with the defaults. thanks for the tip!
I've been idling since the it started and do they still do that "no drops for the first 2 hours" thing for people? I'll idle a bunch of games simultaneously via idlemaster and, say I'm idling 5 games at once for the first 2 hours, I'll often get like 8 or 9 drops in that first 2 hours though sometimes they don't all show up until I turn off idlemaster and then like 5 will pop up simultaneously.

Playing games like Risen, Mars: War logs and of Orcs and Men, its a shame the combat always seem to be the hardest thing for them to nail down in these sort of ambitious low budget titles. Always the biggest thing holding them back.
I love the concept of Orcs and Men so much. Was happy to see Styx live on and actually succeed for them.
Ooh, by posting like that, each key has a sense of mystery!
But you don't know if you have it already or not....
One way to find out. Repost the key if you can't activate it for any reason. I might have a few more when I can spend more than two minutes away from work.

I honestly can't remember if I gave away two Divinity Original Sin 2 keys back when the early access launched or just one.
I went in for the Kickstarter 4 pack. I used one myself, passed one to a friend, and definitely gave at least one away here. But can't recall the last one.
