Liar's [chat]

BogartBogart Streetwise HerculesRegistered User, Moderator Mod Emeritus
So people lie all the damn time about everything. Here are the top twenty books people claim to have read but haven't because they're filthy liars.
  1. Alice's Adventures In Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
  2. 1984 - George Orwell
  3. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy - JRR Tolkien
  4. War And Peace - Leo Tolstoy
  5. Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
  6. The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle
  7. To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee
  8. David Copperfield - Charles Dickens
  9. Crime And Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
  10. Pride And Prejudice - Jane Austen
  11. Bleak House - Charles Dickens
  12. Harry Potter (series) - JK Rowling
  13. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
  14. The Diary Of Anne Frank - Anne Frank
  15. Oliver Twist - Charles Dickens
  16. Fifty Shades trilogy - EL James
  17. And Then There Were None - Agatha Christie
  18. The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
  19. Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
  20. The Catcher In The Rye - JD Salinger

Do you lie about what you've read, you disgusting liar? Probably.

Hey! I have definitely read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! It’s part of my persona! Would I lie about that?

I believe we all know the answer to that.

    I've read seven of those

    earning that doctorate

Also: aww I had a wonderful, Neco-centric poll lying in wait! I just needed three more minutes!

    You're not RMS or SIG!

Also I have read 7 of the 20 items on that list, and that is not a lie

Also also I have parted ways with Ladyfish and now have no responsibilities of my own for half an hour - fear my capriciousness!

I had to read 7 of those in high school.

Dang the school system has really gone downhill.

Psychic monsters, only because I believe genetic engineering would be more against their mores than psychic experimentation would be :P

Actually only 6 I haven't read total. And I tried to read War and Peace but it was so fucking boring that I just used it to make a blanket fort for a nerf war, and that's even better.

I also read Lord of the Rings and 1984, but in my defense, I was forced to read that Orwell tripe in high school.

wouldn't most people be lying about not having read it?

People are also lying about reading 50 Shades of Grey. I think for some of these it's the fear of not being in on a shared experience that causes someone to lie, rather than pretending to be more well-read than they are.

1984, Cather in the Rye, The Diary Of Anne Frank, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Pride And Prejudice and Oliver twist were all garbage I had to read in high school. I had to read the Great Gatsby too, but I enjoyed that one.

P10 is correct. I guessed sig wasn't around and stepped in a minute too soon.

As punishment, I have to start and then moderate a thread about about plot inconsistencies in Star Wars movies.
