Addressing the Biden vs. Obama gap

Biden isn't my first or second pick, but he's probably the safest pick, and perhaps the most entertaining. Obama is smart.

Plus, if McCain chooses Romney, there's going to be quite a number of YouTube clips of nasty things being said between them in the Republican debates. This is the risk of choosing a primary contender as running mate.

More seriously, I'm sure vetting Biden included finding all his old quotes about Obama, all his votes on things that will need to be explained, and figuring out a counter for all the angles McCain can attack from.

The ticket Obama/Biden is most similar to in appearance and basic dynamic, unfortunately, is Bush/Cheney. On pure politics it's a great choice, but you know we're going to get a ton of these stories form the MSM (and the blogs, to be fair, but there's so much crazy there no one will care about that).
MSM is the only place it'll come from. There's no way McCain can plausibly attack on it. "I'm not like Bush/Cheney! HE is!" Who the hell is gonna believe him?

No, I think the moderate voter will view Biden as a solid choice because he's been entrenched in Washington for so long. The only harm he could possibly do is weaken the anti-government/change youth vote, but that won't happen since they either aren't going to vote or won't change over because McCain is ancient. It is a very safe and smart choice by Obama.

For the record, I don't think McCain will choose Romney. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah, some of that stuff was just harsh. If you can say something to Romney to make me feel bad for him, then you've stepped over the fucking line.

Then don't call it experience in front of those voters. Call it clout. 'Obama has the ideas, Biden knows what arms need twisting to get those ideas through.'

Of course, but I think we need to think in terms of just how much damage the media can do if they set their mind to it.

I'm not pissing myself about it, and I really like the choice of Biden, but looking over all the angles this ticket can get hit from I think that could be one of the more insidious and hardest to counter. If Krauthammer or Scarborough get it in their head, like Fournier already has, that this shows Obama isn't really about change and blah blah blah, the W./Cheney ticket is a potent shorthand for that idea.

Witty. So how should Obama combat that meme then?

They don't have to. It will be left by the wayside in a few days and then crushed to pieces by the Democratic Convention.

Your faith in the average American voter is greater than mine.

We are in an election in which Obama and Biden are running against John McCain.

It could have been a Hilary/Giuliani election.

I find The People to be at least moderately trustworthy.

Delaware law allows Biden to run for VP and Senator at the same time.

If he gets VP, the Governor will appoint someone until they can have a special election.

I thought it was frowned upon though since isn't it against the law to work for two different branches of government at the same time?

He wouldn't be. He'd be VP and the Governor would appoint someone else to be Senator until the next election. What this does is give him the ability to stay in the Senate if Satan rises to earth and makes McCain win.

You can't hold positions in two branches of government at the same time, but you can run for them. He's currently a Senator, and would remain so during the campaign and after the vote until January. He can win both races and then resign as Senator before he is sworn in as VP.

I know he wouldn't be, but I thought it was normally frowned upon for that reasoning.

    Webb's comeback was fucking epic.

He was down the whole night. But the votes in Northern Virginia were the last to be counted, so as we went from 75% precincts reporting towards 100% he just kept making up more and more ground until he took the lead with like 5% of precincts left. And it turns out Webb is an awesome senator, so double yay.
