Delaware law allows Biden to run for VP and Senator at the same time.

If he gets VP, the Governor will appoint someone until they can have a special election.

I thought it was frowned upon though since isn't it against the law to work for two different branches of government at the same time?

    Not according to Cheney.

I'm not sure emulating Cheney is a great idea.

Not that Cheney isn't an absolutely upstanding individual.
Why was he chosen as W's VP again?

This is really good, and the summary at least is very clearly written.

I especially like that when you actually include all the things McCain talks about, we lose $7 trillion (3 odd trillion more than he claims), while if you listen to Obama his total comes to $2.6 trillion (400 billion better than he claims).

edit: All of this is over 10 years.

I'm really glad Biden got the nod. Sure, I would've given you guys the finger and gone running off into the sunset if it was Reed, but Biden is hands down the best pick.

And I love that the meme revolving around him is "ololol gaffes." You know how you defeat that? It's only three fucking months. If he doesn't make a gaffe, boom, beats expectations. And he'd probably doing so while being funny and charming and a great attack dog.

He started there. Well, actually, he started back with the original politics megathread here, went there, came back here, and returned once again.

Special note: He quit here around the same time I put up posts of his complaining people weren't being serious and complaining people should screw around. So... send me a pie.

No, Quid. Essentially, I got deservedly yellow-carded and realized that I don't have the ability to take the level of shit I get here without responding in kind and getting slapped down again. So, I'd eventually get banned or jailed, and frankly, that's not worth it just to prove that some of you are the liberal version of me.

It's pretty refreshing (although not technically an effective debate tactic) to go off on someone's mom when they are being stupid, I invite you all to come give it a try sometime :P

I disagree with the Biden "gaffe machine" meme. He's blunt and definitely has a low tolerance for BS sure. But his "gaffes" are generally true if ineloquently put.

I'm not convinced he actually has a substantially higher gaffe rate than other politicians. I mean, he never called anyone bitter.

I don't think this has been posted yet...Dick Lugar's response to the Biden pick:
I congratulate Senator Barack Obama on his selection of my friend, Senator Joe Biden, to be his vice-presidential running mate. I have enjoyed for many years the opportunity to work with Joe Biden to bring strong bipartisan support to United States foreign policy.

The Obama people need to make an ad for Indiana featuring that quote along with Lugar's praise for Obama. Lugar is a demigod in these parts*; I'm convinced that an ad by Lugar praising the Democratic ticket could bring a few extra percent in Indiana.

*He's serving his 7th term in the Senate. All of his wins since the mid-80s have been by 35 points or more; he won reelection in 2006 with 87% of the vote.

I still think Obama should have shocked the world and announced McCain as his running mate. He shouldn't have even consulted McCain about it.
A surprise announcement came at a press conference called by presidential hopeful Barack Obama yesterday. After weathering a torrent of applause with a wide grin, Obama stunned the gathered reporters by announcing McCain as his running mate.

"Look, even McCain knows he cannot win against me," Obama stated matter-of-factly, "so I'm announcing him as my VP pick."

Obama then turned to face the cameras directly and in the stunned silence said, "McCain, lay down thy arms and start printing up McCain <3s Obama plackards and get your cronies to walk around carrying them. Thank you."

Obama then left the stage and refused to answer questions.

I'm sure it was just taken out of context, but it almost seemed implied that Biden though the AIDS/condom issue was a black issue what with the "black sections of my city" and then singling out the black candidate as having been tested for HIV.
