I'm jumping on right now, but it is kinda sketchy whether or not I'll be able to play at 7 or 8.

Makes me feel like a dick, suggesting that time, and then being a maybe on it, and all.

Holy crap Elite is hard. I was getting my ass kicked on the first level. You really have to rely a lot on your allies to pull their weight, otherwise you're pretty much screwed. A few bullets and you're dead.

I would have to agree with that earlier argument as well. With CoD4 I don't need a team, I can just go and rack up a huge amount of kills by myself, call in a airstrike and helicopter and call it a win for the team. But in this I have to stick with a team if i want to even have a chance of staying alive, in this you can't go against any more than 2 people without ending up dead. Skill isn't everything with this, with other games a single guy can take out a whole team if they are good enough, but here you have to work together, its a much bigger playing field.

Mine was coming up behind 2 Helghast, opening fire, then hearing one of them through my headset yell "Oh shit, he's behind me!" right as my shotgun finished exposing his chest cavity.

Either that or taking the Propeganda Speaker and running through a gauntlet of opposition, being riddled with bullets and hitting the drop point for the win...right before dying to a combination of handgrenades and lead poisoning. Felt so good to win it, even if I did die.

Greater thing was that they were coming from both sides of me. So, after a big firefight I was in black and white, turned, shot one on one side, quickly turned and shot the other on the opposite, and then did it all again. The game has so many awesome moments.

I am loving the multiplayer (singleplayer too, but that is more of a bonus these days). My only gripe is not having all the classes from the start. I can understand class unlocks, but not having to unlock the classes themselves. Oh well, still having a good time.

I'm not sure that this is possible yet. Which is a shame, because that's a pretty big thing that would make playing together a lot easier.

Been kinda odd to open fire and have a WGST name pop up as I get the kill. Oh well, at least they died at the hands of one of our own.

Plus, I'm pretty sure I've been fragged so many times by other WGST members.

You know. people love to talk mess about "oh it's tactical" then why is it that I'm sitting in cover playing the way everyone says you need to and people just run at me strafing side to side and headshotting me left and right. really? these controls just constantly make me go back and forth with how I feel bout this game.

I'd be fine with it if I wasn't getting headshot be people serpentining directly at me

I couldn't disagree more. I see much more tactical games than I've ever seen in any FPS. Usually FPSs are a bunch of people running around like one-man armies ramboing it up using no tactics at all. Here, people are sticking together, because it helps that much more now. You can't flail your gun around willy nilly headshotting everyone around, because that's just not possible anymore. And I honestly don't know what you're talking about with people dancing around each other for a long time. The games I'm playing you're fucking dead in seconds for taking a wrong turn into enemy territory.

People group together in this game because it's a spray and pray fest. It's difficult to accurately pin targets at distance, so everyone moves in a herd (also spawning on squad leaders). All games I've been in are generally all close quarters fights with multiple people running around shooting into the room, hitting multiple people and hoping to get a kill. It's not like other FPS', like Counterstrike, or the older CoD's/Rainbow Six games.

To all those arguing 'it's a design choice, it makes your character have more weight, it's a different style, etc.', you're missing the big picture: it's bad. It makes no sense that I, the player, who is represented in-game by my character, cannot make my character act immediately when I want him to. If you want realism, you should have 1:1 perfect response time.

Wow, you sure showed us. o_O

And no, in real life you wouldn't have a 1:1 perfect response time, not even close. Moving your thumb a centimetre to the left/right != Moving your arms left/right while carrying a heavy weapon and gear.

Personally, I think it differentiates KZ2 from pretty much every shooter on the market and is only 'bad' if you don't have the patience to get used to it. Having finished both, I feel pretty comfortable saying that KZ2 is a FAR better game than Resistance 2 and I'm including the gameplay in that comparison (Co-op is R2's only saving grace).

As for the tactical element, I could quite easily argue that the controls actually add to it, since you can't rush into areas and rely on twitch skills to kill enemy players.

Yes, in real life you have a 1:1 response time for your actions. That doesn't mean "I want to shoot that guy, I instantly shoot him." It means "I want to move my gun to aim at him," and it instantly moves. In KZ2, it does not move instantly. The response time from control input to action on screen is not[/ I] 1:1, which is not realistic.

Something interesting I remembered. When I tried playing Bioshock on my laptop for the first time, I had the same sort of aiming lag with my mouse; there was a delay in my reticule moving on screen after moving my mouse. It feels exactly the same in KZ2. I fixed it in Bioshock by lowering the settings, which made it run perfectly (albeit not as pretty). I wonder if the same case is in KZ2... but then someone mentioned KZ1 was similar, so I guess it's a design choice.

It's "difficult" but not even close to impossible. I literally just did a 4 man sniping spree from across the map with my assault rifle. The game's accurate when you're still, slow, and methodical.

I try that, and get no kills, and am immidiately killed by some dude bunny hopping in circles around me headshotting me... which honestly blows my mind with how hard it is to shoot people. the most kills I get are by rushing at groups and strafing and firing wildly... and I'm not joking

Don't get me wrong, I think the game is brilliant. The weapons are powerful and accurate, player movement and interaction with the world is seamless, everything is just so well done. Which is why the fact that the controls are so terrible bothers me so much. :(

I can get kills from afar, and so can others. It's difficult to though, and not for reasons that are dependent on skill. The toolset the game provides is inadequate.

Everything else about the game is wonderful. It's just one little thing that affects everything else.

Case in point. Playing a game online with PA guys right now. #1 guy on the other team has 4:1 k:d ratio, and everytime he has killed me, he just runs around strafing. I can't even hit him, yet BAM headshots me. HOW. HOW is that even remotely possible with these controls.

Should I not even use the scope? Am I doing it wrong? I honestly don't know, but I've never cursed more in a game except maybe street fighter vs. zangief. How are you hitting moving targets? I honestly have no idea hwat i am doing wrong here.

Are you using the scope close range? Because... well.. Don't. I only use the scope when I'm basically trying to snipe someone. And moving targets are really fucking hard to hit with the scope. So shoot them sidearmed, and aim for the head.

    Great games tonight, guys.

I don't think I should lead squads anymore though, I'm too reckless. I keep getting killed before I can really function as a spawnpoint. Also, I think these matches really showed the importance of making balanced teams MANDATORY. I mean jesus christ, some of those matches were ridiculously uneven.

Sidearmed? as in the pistol? Why is that? Or do you mean hip-firing?

And I only use the scope for medium to long range, should I not be using the scope for medium-ish encounters?

Basically this is what I do. Find some cover or a wall or something crouch and try to shoot people coming in my field of view. Within 10-15 seconds most of the time 1-2 guys will see me and just rush me firing at me while running at me and kill me. Or melee me. I've had a guy melee to death before, even though I got the jump on him and was HITTING HIM ( i saw the blood ) for a good 4+ seconds while he ran zig-zagging at me... like... wtf.

So then I started trying to be more mobile and realized I couldn't hit shit when moving... and just got confused as to how people were doing it to me.

Also. I've shot guys before with a burst and the kill will register a good 4-5 seconds later... is this really bad lag or is that how the game works?

EDIT: I'll fully admit I'm getting worked up over this, but I like to win. And, not bragging, but I'm good at CoD, I was good at CS back in the day, I can't really think of many shooters I've played that I wasn't damn good at. Just was always good at them, always had a knack for grasping my surroundings, and quick reflexes. And this game immediately frustrates me because I can't quite grasp what it is I am supposed to be doing. People say camp so I try to camp, and get overrun. So I try to overrun people, and get headshot from people camping. Just leads to a frustrating back and forth. And I end up doing good overall score-wise, but I feel like I'm not doing good. I feel like I'm playing wrong.

BTW Had fun with all the PA guys tonight :D

Yeah, by sidearmed I actually meant hip-shop... erk

Personally I use the scope only for longer range. When they get a bit closer, though I have to switch to hip shooting because they're just moving too fast for the scope.

Honestly, it sounds like you're at least lagging a bit. I get the notification of a kill just slightly after the kill (a second maybe) If you're getting the kill notification 4-5 seconds after, I think you're lagging.

After Seth in Street Fighter 4 and now Radec here I am officially done with lazy, talentless designers who think a challenge having a boss who rapidly teleports all over the place. It's incredibly lazy and turns the most pivotal moment of the game into a helpless struggle while hoping and praying that you have just enough luck to get through. This game was so much fun until this point and now I am so disgusted I'm not even sure I want to continue and finish the single player. The idea of having to finish that fight is absolute torture.

this game has some of the worst writing i've encountered.

it makes me wonder about haze. even though it was ham-fisted, unsubtle and far more self-important than it had any right to be, in light of killzone 2 it was fucking literature. at the time i had no doubts the reviews and criticism it got were deserved, but considering how universal the praise for killzone is, and how lightly it's got off for having a narrative and storyline that's not just bad but regressively bad, it seems that you could never again be harsh on haze for not being subtle enough. nobody got the flipping point

it was still a pretty bad game for other reasons, but listening to some of this dialogue in killzone makes me long for the over-the-top space marine satire that we all thought was so dreadful at the time
