If snap was legal in modern I'd splash blue for it in that deck.
...aaaaaand I just learned about yet another blue card I now love.
My god old Blue was full of ridiculous schenanigans.
They are nowhere near as strong but they do still make cards like it these days. For example look up Rewind.
void snare...
I meant the untapping part.
Well I'm on my phone right now but I'm 90% sure that Rewind was part of the cycle of untapping spells blue got back in Urza Block.
From memory they were Rewind, Frantic Search, Cloud of Fairies, Palinchron, Snap, Treachery, Great Whale, Time Spiral and a drake I can't remember, probably because it's the only one that wasn't busted in half.
Time Spiral led to one of the most busted decks of all time and almost got R&D fired.
Frantic Search has been used as card filtering in a number of combo decks.
Treachery is a free Control Magic for one extra mana.

Yeah core set's been boring a shit for a long time now, not sad to see it go.
That also explains the craziness with khans draft and set structure.
I'm pretty hype for those changes, anything that leads to a more complex standard is ok with me, core sets were boring anyway, and getting one more set a year is pretty great. Also this change removes the double core set summer standard that's usually pretty boring and more of the same.
You could have some real fun with it as a "send off"
Like reprint one card from every Coreset in magics history in it.

I think M15 is cool as a core set but I'm judging it with a core-sets-are-more-boring bias
This is a good change in my opinion. During summer the standard metagame always feels... flat. This eliminates that dead period where the core set comes out and doesn't change much. I am actually pretty excited about this change.

always thought the lorwyn set philosophy was more coherent
I like the removal of core, I dislike 18 month rotation instead of 24.
Maybe it'll increase interest in Modern though, as others might feel the same as I do and would rather play a less rotary format.
This is going to be super interesting and probably awesome.

for as much as I want my personal cards to be legal longer, I am excited overall about cards rotating out sooner
I think if it affects standard prices at all, it will keep them at around the same hover price longer. There's never going to be that summer lull where everything is a bit cheaper. Which is good if you have the cards already, but maybe not so great otherwise.
Well, Khans will be a special case, since it's Khans-Khans-Khans, Dewey-Khans-Khans, Dewey-Louie-Louie, but typically don't you draft a set with each of the other parts of its Block?
So, by only having two sets and six months of drafting a set, you'll open less product overall.
Less product will be opened for certain sets, and those cards will rotate faster, but hasn't magic been on a spree of each set coming out out-selling the last? It may not be an issue at all. Plus standard is still the baby format, and new players will be opening the product outside of drafts and such. It'll be interesting to see how much financial impact the block change actually has.

anyway the reason I was asking about the gen hydra/aura interaction last night is I was messing around with a naya heliod's pilgrim deck and having fun with it. tutoring for chains alone is 2 legit, and burning anger and spectra ward singletons are gravy
I was considering messing around with gen hydra in addition, plus stuff like banishing light i guess so I can really give my opponent maximum value when they side in back to nature
the targeting Q was also pertinent for ol heroes of iroas
buuuut does anyone have any suggestions for this basic idea? The list I was trying definitely has a couple suboptimal, too-cute interactions (ajani steadfast giving vig/lifelink for burning anger)
list was something like
4 hero of leina tower
4 hero of iroas
4 heliod's pilgrim
4 courser of kruphix
3 boon satyr
3 hundred-handed one
3 ajani steadfast
4 chained to the rocks
1 burning anger
1 spectra ward
land and some other auras prob
look I just want to put a spectra ward on a monstrous hundred-handed one and Be The Board State
That makes a lot of sense, shame if y'all are right and standard prices go up (which is totally logical, given what's said).
I wouldn't anticipate the secondary market costs of cards from each large set to inflate significantly, and hopefully the size of each small set will be sufficiently small to prevent greatly rising costs of the cards in those sets.
I suppose the best possible circumstance (with regards to restraining the secondary market costs) would be if each limited format went AAA and then BBA, though doing so might demand that they insert more iterations of the foundational spells (i.e. Naturalize & Divination) into the small set.
Also, we might find that stores are more likely to maintain events oriented around the preceding block, rather than exclusively support the next block upon its release.

Gonna take some getting used to but I more or less agree with the reasoning

Though I am curious what they'll do with M16 since it's going to be the last core set.

I wondered the same thing.
instead of cracking theros packs from fall to july, you stop cracking theros in april or whatever
Meanwhile the new thing means we'll be drafting it from September up until April, resulting in less Big set packs opened

On the other hand, it could lead to greater deck proliferation, and people push harder to make new decks at lower prices.
