ZA looks rad, pretty excited for it. I'm a little concerned about the size of the zones, since I did like having large areas in PLA, but even that should be fine. I still think it's weird to call it "Legends" when it's modern day, but that doesn't really matter.
Not much else for me in this stream; Champions is a good idea and the language stuff is good, but that's about it.
very interested in the more active time battles they showed in ZA
If Legends is going to be where they experiment with the battle system and the main series is only ever going to have tiny changes, I might be fully done with the main series.

yeah surprised it's modern day, but that also means it's a sequel to gen 6 and can finally pay off stuff like Az's floette and everything Zygarde related

I had been hoping for Turtwig/Totodile/Tepig as the starters for ZA and hell yes 2/3 ain't bad at all! I will have a very hard time choosing between Totodile and Tepig though. I'm pumped at the prospect of Feraligatr and Emboar getting regional forms. Emboar may finally get out of the shadow of the two other Fire/Fighting starters that proceeded him.
That is, if they're sticking with giving Legends starters new regional forms. I hope so.

Ayy maybe we get mega forms for these starters?
Also im very intrigued by the position based battling. That should make progression/move selection mean a little more at least.
One of my own personal bugbears with pokemon over the years(especially since skill swapping is locked to postgame) is that poke-progression feels so... limited in the normal game. They level up and you mostly just use the move with the biggest damage.
This could actually liven up some of the other moves in the normal game based on how they interact with positioning.
Yeah, I like the idea of being able to have your Pokemon dodge and react in real-er time. Don't think I'd want to see it in an actual competitive scene, though, since I'm worried the meta would be nonsensical clipping and spinning and stuff to game the hitbox detection system rather than having actual strategy.
No pumpkaboo in the trailer 0/10
At least patrat and furfrou are confirmed so everyone can shut up about that.
It's funny watching all the trailers which are hyping up mobile games with cinematic shots of legendaries and then ZAs big moment of buildup is the hotel building.
So new pvp app champions available on switch and phone so if people just want to battle that’s nice . I thought it was stadium for a sec and got excited.
I was excited until I saw this
According to a note provided by The Pokemon Company, at launch, only select creatures can be used. It was further clarified that not all Pokemon available in Pokemon Home will appear in the upcoming title. The creatures that can be sent to Pokemon Champions through Home are limited to the ones that appear in Pokemon Champions.
So have to wonder how many actual Pokémon are in it.

I'm highly concerned that it's due late 2025 and still looks like complete ass
It looks a bit better than Legends Arceus and that's the best we'll get out of GF (and it's still a Switch 1 title even though it will obviously release simultaneously on both).

I'm betting it's whatever ones are currently available in SV + Legends ZA since those will be easier to reuse assets from
Not a coincidence that they showed Tera and Mega as the gimmicks
Kind of crazy megas are coming to basically every version of Pokemon when I had the (possibly mistaken) impression people didn't really like it.
Mega Evolution is probably the most well liked of all of the game battle gimmicks. It's limited because only certain Pokemon get it and even then most of them just get stronger within their niche (or become usable at all, like Mawile). I personally like Terastallization much better because literally every Pokemon can use it and it has wider strategic use.
I'm of mixed opinion on megas. It's cool for pokemon that get it, but it leaves a lot of pokemon out. And while megas boosting up less powerful pokemon (Mawile, yes) is nice, they also went and did nonsense like Mega Rayquaza. (Or to a lesser degree, things like giving Mewtwo two separate mega forms because why not)
Megas are the most iconic gimmick. Temporary evolution is a great power fantasy, pushing beyond your limits.
And you get actual new designs and models.
Dynamax and Tera were probably "healthier" gimmicks for competitive, but VGC is only a tiny piece of the pokemon pie.
LZA should help fix the biggest problem with Megas, which is that there are too few of them

I dislike megas because you have to evolve them and go through the animation every battle. I also don't really like the concept of temporary evolutions - I don't have a Mega Charizard, I have a Charizard that sometimes gets stronger for a minute.
Terrastalising works for me, because it's not exactly a power boost, it's an alteration. The benefit of Terra types is flexibility, so you wouldn't want it to be permanent. The goddamn animation every time is still annoying though.

Megas > terrastilizing
Because megas look cool and terrastilizing looks lame. Same goes dynamax really.
I think Megas look the best and are the coolest conceptually, what with Pokemon going beyond (or Plus Ultra, or whatever anime breaking your limits term you want to use) and get a massive surge of power AND aesthetics.
Tera does look silly, but the gameplay mechanics of it are just way more interesting to me.
I enjoy terra and will miss it when it’s gone . As far as mega go I kinda hate it , oh so this Pokémon that has been terrible and needed buffs forever gets a gimmick to help it but has to compete with everyone for it and loses it with the game , then just fucking give it an evolution and be done with it .
Tera is certainly the most interesting from a competitive standpoint, but Megas are definitely "cooler." It looks like there's a Mega Meter accompanying the mega transformation, so it's looking like it will have some limitations. If the meter doesn't refill until you get to a Pokemon Center (like Tera) that makes the use of it more strategic at least.
Dynamax was boring, but the true sin against it is that there were clearly Pokemon in Gen 8 that were dependent upon Gigantamax to really seem complete. Centiscorch and Drednaw, for example, both feel incomplete in a game without that function. Drednaw in particular has middle evolution syndrome real bad.
Alright I might just fire up Arceus again. I was going to wait for the Switch 2 but I keep getting the itch (I got addicted to the sujimon system in Infinite Wealth lol

Yeah I guess my concern with it being late 2025 and looking like it does is that the switch 2 is currently expected in June. If it’s going to be out six months after that, it’s just going to feel…bad I think.

The main EX i'm missing is leafeon. I got two glaceon ex and 1 arceus ex.
I haven't looked at the meta implications yet but my main takeaway from this pack is very middle of the road, I think the next drop will be much more impactful. But maybe that's wrong! Maybe there's some combo in these cards that's going to blow things open.
With another new set out, it's becoming harder to complete the Genetic Apex set since I'm not opening those packs and neither is anybody on wonder pick.
Does anybody want to trade? The diamond cards that I'm missing are:
Exeggutor ex (4 diamond)
Poliwrath (3 diamond)
Gyarados (3 diamond)
Mewtwo ex (4 diamond)
Golem (3 diamond)
Aerodactyl (3 diamond)
You can trade 1 star cards too right? I also need these 1-star full art cards:
Gloom
Rapidash
Gyarados
Cubone
Golbat
Meowth
I can offer Bulbasaur, Pinsir, Squirtle Lapras, and Slowpoke

There's a trading post page on the Pocket sub-reddit. I used it to fill out the last few cards I was missing for Apex and Mythical Island. With thousands of people posting, you have a much higher chance of finding what you need.
