tried to play FO1 a week ago, this is the second time I've tried now.
The fact that I would usually avoid isometic games, anything with a point and click movement interface and turn based combat doesn't help, it all just slows down the game a little too much for my ADD brain to deal with.
The fact it's in the fallout universe will always have me wanting to play it, guess I'll just hope that some enterprising fans are secretly working on the first person version otherwise I'll likely never play it.

So, new playthrough started.
Old playthrough
Character:
Male
guns/repair/speech
Good Natured/Wild Wasteland
DLC order:
Honest Hearts
Old World Blues
Dead Money
Lonesome Road
Mods:
The Wall
Bison Steve
NCR finish with everyone allied/sided with me.
New playthrough
Character:
Female
Energy weapons/Explosives/Science
Skilled/Small Frame
DLC:
OWB
HH*
LR*
(*may decide to do later)
Mods:
New Vegas Bounties 1&2
Old World Radio
DLC weapons in main game
Courier's Stash fix*
Finale:
Either side with House or rule New Vegas myself.
I'll post the links to my mods, but here's what Courier's Stash fix does:
All preorder bonus weapons are fixed i.e.: sturdy caravan shotgun now is affect by shotgun perks (same as Merc Grenade rifle now working with explosive and fire-based perks), Broad Machete now does bonus limb damage (same as other machetes), worn 10mm can now be modded and counts as a hold out weapon (can be sneaked into casinos).
DLC in main game is pretty self explanatory: people will possibly carry appropriate DLC weapons (including GRA weapons).
For example, powder gangers can carry fire bottles, tin can explosives, nail guns and police revolvers.
So I downloaded the 4gig New Vegas mod, but I had a question. Does it work in conjunction with NVSE or is it a one or the other type deal?

I think the 4gig is unique since it replaces the EXE file.
I have it but can't use it till I upgrade 7 (got a weird version on my laptop that caps memory usage at 6 gigs, regardless of how much is actually installed.)
EDIT: why the hell did I put Vista? I meant 7. I got a weird version of 7 (that came with my HP laptop and has no upgrade options unless I go OEM).l

I've got 4gigs of ram but I'm running Vista 32-bit so it can only use about 3.2 of that. Would the 4-gig extender be any help to me in this situation?
I'm already feeling bad for using something that isn't a Ranger Sequoia. Big Iron plays everywhere.
Has anybody done a Hardcore cowboy/Roland-playthrough?

Alright, here's my current mods list. It's weird not being able to stockpile EVERYTHING till I finish OWB...
Plus... without the Wall, my life feels.... incomplete...
Preorder Weapon fixes Exactly what it says. Weapons are balanced to work like their non-DLC counterparts.
DLC Weapons in the Mojave This is kinda cool and weapon usage is thematically appropriate. Why is the Courier the only one using the GRA weapons and making fire bottles? Of course, there is a slight balance issue... killed some Powder Gangers carrying some Nailguns (from Lonesome Road) and repaired them to make a decent weapon. That's worth over 1000 caps. And I'm not even level 7 yet.
Old World Radio Download, unpack and throw the BSP file into data folder, boom 9 (and counting) new radio stations. Some old school mystery/action/sci-fi radio shows, some 8-bit chiptunes, and a station run by monkeys.
I like stuff like nailguns, thermal lances and flareguns. Just, hey, we have all this industry and outdoors-gear; might as well kill some folks with it.

So, thinking about Swanson-ing next time I start a game of New Vegas.
Obviously, this means No Gods No Masters for an ending, impeding the NCR and the Legion at every opportunity (figure the NCR would be merely aiding their massive bureaucratic incompetence versus straight up murderin' the Legion), consuming all the meat, and rocking the world's best mustache.
Tags are easy (guns, survival, repair). Traits, less sure, probably skilled. But SPECIAL is tricky.
I mean, he obviously has sky high END to win drinking contests, and solid INT (riddles), but where do you cut?

So, is Big Guns still a thing in New Vegas? I mean, somewhere under the hood so to speak, or would it just be left over engine code from FO3? Cause that "My Little Hoodie" mod I'm using has a SPECIAL stat bonus plus a major (+20) and minor (+5) boost to a couple of skills/traits for each item and one of them has Big Guns flagged for a bonus (says so right in the item description).
Also, since I NEEDED a play to stash my shit (seriously I just ran past Boulder and went to Gun Runners to sell stuff) I decided to start OWB at lvl 9. Being Energy Weapons focused so far is making this a cakewalk.

Did you know how easy it is to survive with Cannibalism/Ghastly Scavenger, Tribal Wisdom and Them's Good Eating? It's pretty easy. Or course, I figure my massive, constant regeneration might be helping a little bit, too. Radiation is good for you, kids.
(I play as if I had Logan's Loophole, because there's no reason to care about most addictions. I get plenty of idiot-dialogue simply by being drunk off my arse.
Being crippled only pisses my character off, thanks to Eye for Eye.)
I finally got around to playing Dead Money. Welp, I'm not going to be selling the prize for worthless bottlecaps because I already have 30k and don't really need to buy any fancy weapons from the gun runners. That leaves me with pretty much just ammo and some items to buy repair with. I guess I will just trade them for a hoard of weapons to stash somewhere and forget about.

Bury your gold throughout the Mojave to protect yourself against economic collapse.

As far as I know, it isn't. Instead, all guns (and energy weapons and missile launchers) have a Strength requirement. If you have less Strength than required to properly wield whatever massive gun you want to use your accuracy drops since you can't keep the bloody thing steady.

I might have to figure out GECK then and either fix it or figure out what it's doing. Because the damn thing says "+5 Big Guns" while another says "+5 Guns", and a third is "+5 Energy Weapons".
Was it also a FO3 mod? Someone might have just done a quickie NV port of the mod and not bother to change big guns appropriately.

Maybe? Don't think so, but mods can be made well after a game's popularity is down.
Anyway, not like it ultimately matters. I mean its decent armor (DR 10, DT 6) with some bonuses, but it's cloth/light so it breaks fairly frequently. Luckily it's cheap to repair.
Another thing... Why do characters (mine and companions) go bald when we equip that halo from OWB? Looks like I might need to fix something else...
Last thing: how difficult is GECK to use? To keep my mod list clean, I'd like to combine the two weapon mods I'm using (fixed Pre-order and DLC in Mojave) plus another that make Gehanna actually unique (blue flame plus enemies hit by it burn blue instead of red/orange) and any other mods that fix a single weapon and roll them all together so I have less stuff to load.

This reminds me of the first time I equipped a missile-launcher in FO3. I spent the rest of the day gushing about it with my sibling.
The view swayed like I wouldn't be able to lift the thing.
Have you ever been out east or anywhere east of the Mississippi? Squirrels are like ants; they're just everywhere and no matter how many of them you think there are, you can usually at least double that.
If anything I think you have your question reversed; the number of squirrels out here in the west compared to back east is like nothing. They're actually fairly rare out thisaway.

As a lifetime east coaster, so much this. A varmint rifle might as well be called a squirrel gun out here.
My wife is from South Dakota and she didn't believe it when I told her that in NYC we have black squirrels. Then she saw one and went crazy taking pictures.
"Sometimes things aren't complicated," I said. "You just have to be willing to accept the absolute corruption of everybody involved."

second best knife
which is not bad for something three minutes outside of goodsprings
it's a good knife, just blood-nap is better
it's stronger starting off, so blood-nap with cowboy is about as powerful as chance's knife with both
the main difference is chance's knife has a higher crit chance modifier (2x vs. 1.5x) while blood-nap has ridiculous crit damage

Plus these little beauties
Also included are the recommended New Vegas Bounties and a Beautification mod (Project Mikoto. More hair/eye options.)
Best part, all these are just drop and play. No fiddling with setting or anything.
I'll save that for when I try RTS...

Why I fear the ocean.
probably agility
That's what I was thinking.
"I have the toes I have. Let's just leave it at that." and all.
Death sentence in Fallouts pre-3, quite workable in Vegas. Man, Agility fell from grace post Tactics.
Why I fear the ocean.
Agreed.
I'd also say END went up in utility a little. Old crit system made HP less relevant.
Why I fear the ocean.

And maybe having access to the fabrication station (trading cigs and clothes for Stims).
And maybe grabbing a bar or two of gold.
But that would require playing DM a 3rd time and without the Wall (so no cheesy teleportation).
A lot about Dead Money is its own reward. Also the Holorifle.
I'd like to reverse-pickpocket some Formal wear or White Glove attire without going through the associated quests.
One thing I promised myself when I buried gold in my backyard was that I never be a hoarder or a miser about it.
Why I fear the ocean.
