Game Explain covers what is causing it and how having the game on the Switch's internal memory vs a SD card causes it to run smoother in general and avoid frame drops completely in some cases.
I am a Heretic of Zeldas - as far as I'm concerned the entire series peaked at LttP, and I haven't truly enjoyed one of them since. But I also never played Link's Awakening so this is basically LttP II: Way Prettier + 25 Years Late to me.
CURSE YOU FRIDAY MORNING, YOU ARE NOT NEARLY FRIDAY ENOUGH!
You didn't enjoy Link Between Worlds?
Didn't play it - never came to Switch! But I heard good things.
It is a legit contender for the actual title of LttP2 but Awakening is good too. The item system Awakening introduced was very novel and IIRC used again later in the Oracle games.
so the frame rate drop. are we talking Bloodstained bad or just 'noticeable' in a few areas?
because I watched the game explain video and while I noticed the drop a few times, it didn't look unplayable. How are the boss fights? If they're laggy, I'll hold off, but if they're fine, I have a trip to best buy I need to make.
I can't play Bloodstained but I can play this. Usually slowdowns happen almost immediately following a load screen and then normalize quickly.
Played up to end of first dungeon and slowdowns are definitely in the negligible bracket for me.
Pure nostalgia!
I wonder where the Capcom Zeldas sit legally? I presume Nintendo wouldn't be stupid enough to not retain full rights. I'd love to see the Oracles done in this style as well.

I played through this a ton of times as a kid, but that was I played through this a ton of times as a kid, but that was - ugh, getting dangerously close to 30 years ago - and never played it since. I can barely remember any of it so I'm curious if any of it will come back to me as I play.

I bought the physical version and didn’t really notice much frame drops at all in both docked and handheld. Maybe slight brief drops if you are looking for it. Also appreciate the better worded hint for that dungeon puzzle gif posted earlier.

Oh neat. I might try moving it to internal memory then.
How can you move a game once it's already DL'd? The Switch's options menus are always pretty mysterious to me.
From what I’ve seen, archive the software, remove the SD card, re-download.
So, not ideal, but I’ll probably still do it at some point today.
I’m two dungeons in. For a game I haven’t played in a loooong time, I remember this stuff too well.
Is that seriously the only way to do it? That is seriously pants.
Only thing I could find online. I’m re-downloading now, so I’ll try to come back with some impressions on whether there’s a meaningful difference later today.
Edit: We got fiber installed at our new house on Monday, so I know this is annoying, but I’m also still nerd flexing all this new bandwidth.

haha, I feel this comment. When I upgraded my internet to fiber, I downloaded a bunch of stuff on Steam just to see how fast I could do it.

I am pretty sure this is the only way to do it. Last time I looked, anyway, when my original SD card turned out to be a dud a few weeks after I bought it.
Home from work, got my amiibo (which is just as cute as I hoped) and my limited edition. Sadly I won't have too much time to play this weekend, but I should be able to get some decent time in on Sunday evening.
1: The initial frame rate drop when loading is really bad. Thankfully after a few seconds it goes away.
2: I can't figure out where the hell to go or how to get my sword and it's pissing me off.
3: the blurry edges were a terrible design choice and I really hate them.
4: this games space design is terrible. Even in the starting village there are 4 or 5 places that look l should be able to move through or past and I can't.
I've been playing for about 45 minutes and I am not even remotely impressed.

Oh shit, I forgot the Amiibo! Is that a store exclusive?
For 2, you can push enemies with your shield and this includes the sea urchins. (I think they're sea urchins? They might be gordos, in retrospect.)
Yeah, I finally figured it out
I'd even read about it in the library, but assumed it meant you could push already mobile enemies. Figured the stationary enemies were 100% immobile like, well, every other game I can think of including link to the past =p
So playing on the cart, the slowdown isn't remotely unplayable, but it sure is distracting and disappointing. Hopefully they will patch it and improve the issue.
Hmm, something went a bit screwy and when I bought my first bombs I got 60 instead of 10. Possibly because I'd done the bomb capacity upgrade before I had any bombs? Oh well, not complaining.
Is it particularly relevant that I finish LttP before playing Lb/wW?
Not really.
Yeah, the only connection is that this is supposed to be the same Link from LttP venturing out into the world. That's it.
I think the Link Between Worlds Link and the Link to the Past Link are different Links. I think main connection between them is the similarity of Hyrule's layout.
Different Links, but in the same world. Just 1000 years apart, or something.
Oh no we're talking about Zelda timelines again change the topic.
Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

As a kid I had no idea about the item combination system.
Just used the boots with the feather because like, that's less of a combo system and more of an "well yeah, you can run and jump"

Am doing this right now myself and luckily redownloading is going quick and the game only takes up 5.5 gb of space.
Liking the look of this so far! The frame rate is sort of reminiscent of walking into Kokiri Forest in Breath of the Wild at times though. The crane mini game seems ripe for abuse too. Pretty easy to get the purple ruppee, exit and reenter, then get it again.
The sheer amount of Mario objects and enemies is odd given that the most crossover I had seen before in a Zelda game was shooting a Mario painting with a slingshot in Ocarina of Time. It kinda works though? The world itself seems a bit on the small side but fairly dense nonetheless.
This Trendy Game business is going to see a huge net loss in profit now that I'm around.
It is definitely the snow bowling/Super Gut Check Challenge of this game (unless there is sonething later that can somehow ne abused more) in terms of raking in the ruppees and its just right there at the start.
Trendy Game has been wildly inconsistent for me. I've gotten it dead centre on something and it's slipped out.
Other times I've overshot so it's perfectly obvious that the claw will just knock it over, and it's managed to get held in a perfect grip.

I have it on my system memory and it still has a lot of framerate issues. If this is better.....

as the resident DDD main I can confirm those are, in fact, gordos
I assume if you find a way to murder the owner of the new and “improved” crane game and steal the seashell from it they call you JUSTIFIED HERO.
Just hit this part of the game, and can confirm yes, you do.
I can has cheezburger, yes?
Not really.

Sadly they don't. (They already changed the line for the DX version)

I think maybe because I have no nostalgic feelings for this game, I see its faults easier. There are many.
