Definitely it's not nearly as strong in personality, but with the fresher coat of paint I'll still probably put a good amount of time into it.
At least until BF2042 and Infinite.
I feel like the primary motivation for playing this game will be that it's more Left 4 Dead, but it also looks very clearly worse than Left 4 Dead so you're left in the awkward situation where you could just... play Left 4 Dead.
I was super hyped when this got announced but there's nothing in trailers that has impressed me and, bluntly, I don't want to pick this up at full price when I have little confidence in it.
I'm happy to be proven wrong, there's still time to right the ship and make things more fun. Mostly making things a bit more streamlined would help a lot.
I'm specifically looking at PvP, which was one of my favorites in the original games, and doesn't seem to be given the same attention here.
All in all, I'm not particularly impressed, it seems totally competent, but I don't think I'm gonna spend 60 bucks on it right out of the gate.
This beta seemed alright. That specific audio line from zombies is going to need to change asap, though.
PSN: Bizazedo
CFN: Bizazedo (I don't think I suck, add me).
There’s definitely potential if they fix just a couple things.
The card system is great allowing you to adjust your gameplay on the fly depending on how the AI Director has been updating the difficulty. Have to see the other Supply Lines and how in-depth the cards are.
. . .definitely day one for me.
Last paragraph hammers it home for me. This feels comparable to L4D or a slight step back. But games have massively changed, and it completely fails to deliver something new, amazing, or at least perfectly polished to justify going back.

Personally not having PVP campaign is a shame as that was like 90% of my time playing it with friends. Also the infected are not as outstanding as the left 4 dead special zombies.
For all the ogre with his lumbering majesty, feels underwhelming compared to the tank music kicking in and seeing something a third of its size punch a car at you.
I think it’s got some solid stuff here and will be interested to see how it progresses.
I do feel like if they had the character design and writers of that game, and combat of B4B, you'd have a good enough L4D game
Edit: "Profile service is in maintenance mode." My only option is to quit to desktop. Sick.
Edit2: Ohhhhhhh, it's doing that because the beta isn't open yet. I guess. Not very transparent, but my bad, I suppose.
Yeah. Beta is over for now I believe.

Edit: August 12-16 confirmed.
Also, if someone leaves your game, you're pretty much fucked because the bots are useless and no one ever joins in to replace them.
That said, it's not entirely terrible. Working your way through hordes of zombies is fun and the game runs well, but it definitely is way rougher around the edges than it should be, even in beta. It's a good thing it'll be on gamepass because it aint worth spending money on, but it can be decent fun in short bursts.
Fuck that ferry for real, though.
That's probably unfair to this game, and there are probably a lot of things in L4D2 I'd stand aghast at the primitive nature of in the year of our lord 2021, but it's been 7 years since I played that, so this has to compete with my rose-tinted memory.
I like the card thing, although it didn't seem very well explained to me at first what was going on with it. It's Good. Melee feels better than what I remember from L4D, so that's also Good. The card that upgrades your punch into a stab straight up gives you the stab from COD, which is an excellent stab. I like the weapon variety and the attachments and all the nitty-gritty nature of that stuff, although, as a system, it kind of feels wasted on the enemies the game gives you.
Naming a character Walker in a game about zombies where characters shout each other's names a lot is rude.
The gap between difficulty levels is absurd
A zombie I had killed had a basketball jersey texture instead of a face texture; unfortunately he melted before I thought to get a screengrab
A lot of the zombies' neutral animations feel exactly lifted from L4D, although the polish for when each animation is triggered seems to not be there, and you see zombies doing stuff that doesn't feel right for where they're standing. Admittedly this would happen occasionally in this game's predecessors, as well, but I don't remember it being this common, and in any case the old games are old and we should be better than that.
So yeah I guess it's pretty much Left 4 Dead 2, plus some neat, if sometimes superfluous-feeling new mechanics, plus some QoL improvements, plus jank, and minus character. All in all I think I'd rather be playing Vermintide, even though that game has its own problems, but there's enough here that I'll keep futzing with it, I think.
Edit: Oh! And the bots are criminally lame. But that's almost a standard in this genre.
WWZ is a lot of fun too. I really enjoyed my time with it.
Well, I do get the issue for people who loved Versus campaigns, which were very fun. Have they not said they'll add that later?
I was shocked to see "mixed" reviews on Steam. I suppose not everybody has a consistent crew to game with, though, and if you're trying to group up or use bots, the bad matchmaking and dumb AI would sour the experience.
