King Kong was Peter Jackson's last good movie. I fear it will also be the last good Peter Jackson movie.
as bad as the Hobbit trilogy is as a whole, i'm fairly certain a great editor will one day chisel it down into the single 3 hour movie it always should've been and it'll be pretty watchable
but until then, though, yeah
Somebody tell me when that happens, I ain't gonna watch the Hobbit films until then.
I really wish Del Toro hadn't pulled out of the project, I would love to see what he would've done with it. The pale orc is all that's left of his influence I think, it's so clearly a Mignola design.
it still bewilders me that they changed the name of the third movie from There and Back Again to Battle of the Five Armies
but then i remember how bad that movie is and realize it's better off

Azog the Pale Orc was actually a last minute digital replacement of a costumed actor. Specifically the actor who played the Mountain in the first season of Game of Thrones. Even more awful, the actor left game of thrones to play Azog.

Oh shit you're right. I'm thinking of the dude who played Bolg. Though Azog was still gunna be Manu Bennett in costume.
I think a true test of a fan cut is whether somebody who hasn't seen the originals likes it. Because I can never approach a recut film from a fresh perspective, I'll always be aware of the cut parts and they'll still be affecting my understanding of the film. Someone might cut a scene and I won't miss it, because I've already seen it and I don't need to see it again. But a new person? They might be totally lost.

everything involving Azog is weird and indicative of last second changes
the original Mountain actor was going to be "the pale orc" but the entire performance was digitally replaced in post and the practical orc was supposed to show up in the second movie as Bolg, but then THAT got tossed out as well
the entire production was really a huge mess

It's all such a bummer. Because what a fucking perfect cast. Martin Freeman as Bilbo is perfect.
Though Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent was also perfect..
i'm actually fairly certain the battle of Azanulbizar scene was originally shot with the actor in the practical orc makeup (hence the numerous photos of him on set) and they just painted over it with Bennett's performance later on like they did with Sauron at the end of Return of the King

i seem to remember when I first signed up for PA one of my old avatars was Godzilla as he appeared on a Czech or Polish movie poster. It was really cool and weird. I should bring the guy back! Nobody talks about Voltron anymore.

I'm not surprised to be honest. Jackson wasn't originally going to do it, then jumped in because the other guy bowed out, then dealt with the studio pressuring him into making 3 movies out of what he'd been given in a really short span of time. I don't think anyone could have made great movies in those circumstances. Maybe if they'd given the same amount of time to make one real good Hobbit movie it'd be amazing, but they wanted a new Lord of the Rings and they wanted it fast.

You can see the cracks starting to form, but watching that in theaters opening night, I came away from it mostly positive
The second one was the angriest I've been in theaters. The third I didn't bother. Which given how fucking much I love Tolkien still kinda shocks me.
Which is real weird, since Beorn's participation in the Battle of Five Armies was literally the only thing I wanted out of those movies
One of my buddies told me there isn't more than ten seconds of him.
but then i remember how bad that movie is and realize it's better off
yeah fuck i legit forgot he even shows up in those movies
i think an eagle drops him into a group of orcs during the battle and that's all you see of him

Conan Stevens, the first Mountain, was Bolg, which... I don't even remember which one he was
Legolas wrestles with him in Desolation of Smaug. He's Azog's son. And Azog actually effectively takes Bolg's role from the book.

The Balrog is a kaiju, right
that fucker is tiny compared to even Godzilla Jr.
The kids can call him Go-ju.
i want to say that the term for this is Kaijin?
So I googled Kaijin and got this
Well yeah, but I thought it was cool. There's almost definatly a Kaijin based on the Kaijin right?
When he's in a bad mood, he's a ragin' gaijin kaijin.
Why I fear the ocean.
so I am very excited
My options:
Godzilla (2014)
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2
Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
